Surgery Nursing Assistant-Unit Clerk
Position Summary : The Nursing Assistant / Unit Clerk provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). Assists patients with changing for surgery before / after, safely helps transfer patients from carts to chairs and aids the RN / LPN in any assigned duty within their scope. Provides indirect patient care as a sitter for patients meeting criteria for this need. The Nursing Assistant / Unit Clerk, under general supervision also performs a variety of general and specialized clerical support tasks related to departmental functions. The Nursing Assistant / Unit Clerk aids staff to ensure patient information is collected and available in a timely manner. Greets patients and answers the telephone in a professional manner. Provides direct or indirect patient care.
All aspects of the Nursing Assistant / Unit Clerk’s performance support service excellence and a healing environment. The Nursing Assistant / Unit Clerk identifies and communicates needed unit resources or equipment to be included in budgets.

Nursing Assistant / Unit Clerk Accountability :

Nursing Assistant / Unit Clerk Accountability :
â—Provides vital basic care needs to patients and families of BBGH
â—Answers patient call lights promptly
â—Completes occurrence report if patient falls, and notifies Charge Nurse
â—Follows BBGH Infection Control policies and procedures
â—Performs hand hygiene before and after any patient interaction
â—Maintains Standard Precautions and additional precautions as indicated
â— Holds all health care workers accountable to reduce potential falls, hospital-acquired wounds and infections, and follow BBGH protocols / policies
â—Shares own knowledge with colleagues
â—Participates in ongoing learning through education provided by staff, hospital-based programs / staff meetings
â—Actively seeks opportunities to increase knowledge and skills
â—Completes assigned education, mandatory training, and competencies per BBGH / unit-specific specifications in a timely manner
â—Is aware of the happenings of the department by participating in daily huddles and reading emails
â—Makes suggestions for unit-based competencies based on identified needs
â—Receptive to new ideas and knowledge
â— Attends a minimum of 80% of departmental meetings
EDUCATION
Required : High School Diploma or GED equivalent

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
License / Certifications :
Required : Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate for healthcare workers.
Maintains appropriate certifications
