Reporting Relationship: BBGH Child Care Director
General Summary of Responsibilities:
The Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating curriculum, and managing daily classroom operations. Understanding children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development is essential to creating a safe and stimulating environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. Effective communication with children and adults is crucial to meet children's needs, guide teacher assistants, and address parental concerns.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with the Lead Teacher and Director to implement educational curriculum and develop developmentally appropriate classroom activities.
- Lead by example, fostering team success through modeling and coaching.
- Provide engaging individual and group activities that promote social, cognitive, and emotional growth.
- Maintain regular communication with parents through discussions, progress reports, and conferences.
- Ensure compliance with center policies and state regulations.
- Maintain a healthy classroom environment, including hygiene, cleanliness, and safety protocols.
- Support teacher assistants and volunteers in following planned activities and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Develop a personal professional development plan for continuous improvement.
- Participate in team meetings and program assessments to enhance program quality.
- Complete required training: 12 clock hours annually if working 20 hours/week; 6 clock hours if working less than 20 hours/week.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
Education Requirements:
- Certified Teachers: Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate required.
- Non-Certified Teachers: Must be at least 19 years old and meet one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, or Child/Youth Development.
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, or Child/Youth Development.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, Certifications, and Experience Required:
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with basic computer proficiency.
- High energy and ability to collaborate effectively with staff, children, and parents.
- Deep understanding of child development.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification.
- Complete Safety Training within one year of employment.
- Complete Nebraska’s Early Learning Guidelines by the fifth year of employment.
- Pass a full background check, health screening, and fingerprinting.
- Post-offer pre-employment background check and drug screen required.
