CLASS TITLE: HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2
DEPARTMENT: LANDFILL
DIVISION: BOX ELDER COUNTY
GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of skilled work in the operation and maintenance of heavy
mechanized equipment during landfill operations, all with due regard for the safety of
self, other employees and the public. Operator will receive training from SWANA (Solid
Waste Association of North America) for landfill Operations and waste screening.
Operator will become CPR and First Aid Certified. Operator will be required to complete
10 hours of landfill specific training annually and become familiar with the Utah
Department of Environmental Quality RCRA subtitle D compliance guide for Municipal
Solid Waste Landfills. A valid Utah Commercial Driver License Class A is required upon
employment start date.
Assures compliance with various federal and state agency regulations related to solid
waste, environmental impact, land management, and overall solid waste operations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Operator works under the general supervision of the Executive Director of the Box Elder
County Landfill.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
? Operates specialized equipment at Public Convenience Center such as front-end
loaders, mini-excavator, haul trucks, water trucks, and other similar equipment
on site only.
? Responsible for pre-operative check of equipment as well as post-operative
check of equipment and performs general maintenance of heavy equipment in
the course of his/her daily duties.
? Maintenance may include but is not limited to the changing of tires, filters,
hoses, lubrication of equipment, fueling, cleaning, and general maintenance
tasks.
? Operator is responsible for maintaining records of all pre-operation and post-
operation maintenance performed on the equipment. If repairs are required,
Operator should be familiar with and understand the basic functions of the
equipment and notify the Director immediately if repairs are needed.
? Operator will be required to perform Random Load Inspections and must be able
to identify and remediate any unlawful dumping of Hazardous or unacceptable
waste.
? Operator will be required to obtain hepatitis & tetanus vaccination due to the
risk of exposure from working in a Landfill Environment. Operator will receive
mandatory training to minimize risk and maximize safety while working at the
landfill.
? Operator shall maintain all certifications and a valid Driver License while under
the employment of Box Elder County.
