CLASS TITLE: Road Sign Specialist/Equipment Operator

GENERAL PURPOSE
Is responsible for and performs a variety of skilled work in the maintenance of signs and record keeping for signage utilizing ESRI mapping software. Performs a variety of skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the Durapatcher pot hole machine and in snow removal on roads throughout Box Elder County , all with due regard for personal safety of other employees and the public. Must be able to gain a working knowledge of the principles associated with the Utah MUTCD manual.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Road Operations Supervisor or Roads Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises other employees in the correct placement of temporary traffic control devices. Is responsible for seasonal workers who are responsible to have compliance with Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) regulations of sign placement and condition of signs.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Operates IPAD using the Counties ESRI mapping software inputting Sign asset inventory data. Produces and orders street address signs, regulatory, and advisory signage and installs according to MUTCD guidelines.
- Inspect signs, roads, bridges, and road markings to determine their condition and ensure compliance to Federal, State, and Local Codes and specifications.
- Operates Durapatcher machine, Telspar Anchar Hammer, and other equipment as assigned.
- Operates and maintains a Durapatcher machine in the performance of daily pavement repairs and cleans and maintains equipment. Continually does on-going pavement inspections and census for pavement distress for Box Elder County roads.
- Operates 1 ton truck, Durapatcher machine, backhoe, frontend loaders and other trucks and equipment in the performance of their duties or in support of other divisions.
- Operates ten wheeler snow plow in snow removal and sanding procedures.
- Checks and services vehicle gas, oil, and coolant levels; reports present or anticipated mechanical problems; makes minor emergency repairs or adjustments; performs general labor duties on the job to which the equipment is assigned.
- Must be able to gain the Certification for Flagger, Temporary Traffic Control Technician, & Temporary Traffic Control Supervisor.
- Must become proficient with much of the knowledge associated with the Utah MUTCD.
- Responsible for the Temporary Traffic Control Devices and sign storage facilities located at the County Road sheds.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
