What are the responsibilities and job description for the Barback position at Boxcar Bar + Arcade?
Barbacks play an essential part in the overall success of the Boxcar Bar Arcade team. Their main function is to support the bartenders throughout the shift to make sure they have everything they need to efficiently serve the guest. They should also actively focus on making sure the bar; bar top; keg cooler; and bar supplies are clean and organized. Barbacks should have a keen eye for detail; are able to prioritize tasks; and a strong teamwork mentality. Barbacks will work a variety of shifts including opening, mid, closing and private events.
Job Responsibilities:
- Help to maintain the overall cleanliness of the bar top during guest service hours by removing dirty glassware; frequently wiping down the bar top and spills; and collecting signed customer receipts for the bartenders.
- Running dirty glassware through the dishwashers and restock clean glassware once cooled and dried.
- Constantly evaluating what items are needed for the bar and prioritizing necessary tasks in order of importance.
- Ensure the bar is stocked with necessary items:
- Restock liquor, beer and wine.
- Restock napkins, straws and other bar counter items.
- Refill juice bottles; fruit trays and ice wells
- Cut bar fruit if needed at the beginning and throughout the shift to maintain par levels.
- Remove empty soda boxes and replace as needed.
- Complete all tasks associated with keg changes such as line cleaning; tap handles; menu changes; and tap new keg.
- Ensure that all liquor bottles are disposed of properly with liquor stamps intact and visible but marked to indicate use.
- Empty trash and recycling as needed throughout the shift and at the end of the shift.
- Complete basic janitorial tasks such as spraying down bar mats; sanitizing surface areas; sweeping and mopping as needed and at the end of the shift.
- Contribute the overall cleanliness and organization of the bar; keg cooler and back stock through daily opening and closing checklists; weekly side work assignments; and other necessary or assigned tasks.
- Assist with product rotation upon receiving deliveries of new product.
- Barbacks who are scheduled to work private events in our event space will assist in general barback duties as well as helping the Event Coordinator with the setup and break down of tables, chairs and linens; catering orders and necessary utensils; pre-bus dirty glassware and plates from event guests; and other assigned duties.
- Attend regular bar staff meetings, all staff meetings and alcohol service training courses.
Job Qualifications:
- Ability to stand and walk for 8-hour shifts.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to team lift kegs
- Maintain an impeccable attendance record.
- Ability to work weekends and shifts that correlate with the needs of the business.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
