Position Overview

Supervises and gives guidance to the field staff of the council in a 3-county area. Is held accountable for measurable achievements of the other professionals. Serves as manager and operating officer of the districts and is responsible for the effective organization, operation, and promotion of the council program within the districts through the district executives. Works with the chairs and commissioners of the district committees and commissioner staff to fulfill their functions and facilitate the optimum collaboration between the district and the board.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits, develops, and maintains an effective executive team.
  • Maintains a professional working climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates top-quality volunteers.
  • Assures Districts have a long-range strategy that achieves its mission and makes consistent progress.
  • Assures the flow of funds from the districts helps the council to achieve its mission.
  • Assures that executive visits are made to heads of institutions annually to review leadership and quality items.
  • Evaluates the performance of district executives and maintains records of their achievements and failures.
  • The position will have key council assignments and exposure to executive board operations. Ie: (Membership Committee, Marketing Committee, social media, Popcorn, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Seeking an individual who is professional in dress, well-spoken, and comfortable in social and networking settings.
  • Strong interpersonal, written communication, and verbal presentation skills.
  • Proven fundraising success and skills in community organization. Individual should understand the process to identify potential upper-level prospects and have the skill set to engage other volunteers to approach potential prospects.
  • Ability to supervise staff utilizing effective back-dating and work scheduling.
  • Effective in managing membership and new unit organization to achieve growth on a consistent basis with attention to retention of units and youth.
  • Ability to manage functioning districts at a high level of operation and utilize effectively the annual nominating committee process.
  • Prior experience in Scouting must include the direct supervision of one or more staff members.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and polished staff leadership skills.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with passionate and committed people.
  • Excellent analytic skills with a proven commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
  • Must be able to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Must possess a focus on continuous improvement and growth, both within the organization and with self.
  • A flexible schedule is frequently required for evening/weekend events.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and PPT) preferred.
  • Team player, positive attitude, and willing to learn.
  • Eligible for employment in the United States of America and commission from the Boy Scouts of America.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured.
