The Field Director will report directly to the Scout Executive and will work collaboratively with the Executive Board supporting all aspects of the Council’s youth member and unit growth objectives, commissioner service, unit support, Council program support, and unit fundraising programs. This position will be an exciting, challenging opportunity for a highly motivated, energetic second or third-assignment BSA professional to expand Scouting in the storied Midwest council prime with opportunities to excel.

The Scouting America W. D. Boyce Council serves 3,500 youth members, and 1,800 volunteer leaders in Central Illinois and is headquartered in Peoria, IL. This is a great opportunity for a goal-oriented individual ready to make an impact to join our Scouting Family.c

Responsibilities

  • Membership Growth: Developing strategies and leading efforts to recruit new youth and adult volunteers to Scouting units within the Council, including an aggressive approach to Cub Scout Pack formation.
  • Volunteer Development: Identifying, training, and supporting key volunteer leaders for Council Committees, and within each district, ensuring outstanding operations and program delivery.
  • Program Quality: Leading the development and implementation of life-changing Council, District, and unit programs ensuring compliance with BSA standards and guidelines and promoting diversity.
  • District Operations: Supervising the day-to-day operations of the districts, including budget unit service, oversight, scheduling events, and coordinating with other council staff.
  • Fund Development: Supporting all aspects of the Council fundraising plan, including significant growth in member-related fundraising, special event promotion, and product sales.
  • Communication and Reporting: Regularly communicating with council leadership, district volunteers, and units about the program, important announcements, and performance metrics.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensuring adherence to all BSA safety policies and procedures, including youth protection guidelines, within their district.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Qualifications

  • Scouting experience: Demonstrated experience in leadership roles within Scouting America with success in unit-serving executive positions.
  • Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to interact effectively with volunteers, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Leadership skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, manage multiple districts, and oversee program development.
  • Volunteer engagement: Strong skills in recruiting, training, and supporting volunteer leaders.
  • Organizational skills: Capability to manage budgets, plan events, and handle complex logistics.
  • Community involvement: Understanding of local community dynamics and ability to build relationships with key community partners.
  • Commitment to Scouting values: Adherence to the Scout Oath and Law, and a passion for the mission of the Boy Scouts of America.
  • X-factor: An infectious positive attitude, views Scouting as a calling, not a career, willingness to run through fire to make Scouting thrive.

HIGHLY DESIRED

  • Information Technology: Experience and aptitude for technology including website maintenance, Microsoft Suite, and AI.
  • Fundraising experience: Ability to secure funding to support the Scouting mission.
  • Problem-solving skills: Strong analytical skills to identify issues, creatively approach challenges, and find effective solutions.

Salary or Salary Range: $65,000 to $80,000 based on experience and qualifications.
