Job Title : COPE Director

Job Location - Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley, Warner Springs, CA

Responsible To - Program Director

Responsible For - COPE Staff

Job Summary : The COPE Director is responsible for overseeing the camp's high ropes course and Camp Borrego program. The high ropes course includes a dynamic belay system and a zipline. This role involves ensuring the utmost safety of participants, maintaining the course and equipment, and providing instruction and guidance.

  • Week 3 : 7 / 6 / 25-7 / 12 / 25
  • Week 4 : 7 / 13 / 25-7 / 19 / 25
  • Week 5 : 7 / 20 / 25-7 / 26 / 25
  • Week 6 : 7 / 27 / 25-8 / 2 / 25 (Dependent program finalization)

Wage - $516.00-584.00 per week after R&B of $45.00 / week

Key Responsibilities :

  • Manage and oversee all activities at the high ropes course, including the operation of the dynamic belay system and zipline.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections of the course and equipment, performing necessary maintenance or coordinating repairs.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety and training protocols for both participants and staff.
  • Supervise, train, and certify ropes course staff, ensuring they are proficient in safety procedures, rescue techniques, and course operation.
  • Facilitate high ropes course sessions, guiding scouts through the course while emphasizing safety and team-building skills.
  • Coordinate with other camp staff for the scheduling of high ropes course activities.
  • Maintain detailed records of equipment use, inspections, and participant progression.
  • Develop emergency response plans for the high ropes course and conduct regular drills with staff.
  • Foster a supportive and educational environment, encouraging scouts to challenge themselves and build confidence.
  • Support overall operations of Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley and the Scouting America, Orange County Council.
  • Submit an end of summer report

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for extended periods.
  • This job requires the use of hands to handle, control or feel objects or tools.
  • The employee must frequently lift and / or move moderate to heavy objects, which requires frequent and proper bending.
  • The employee must frequently be on their feet walking and hiking for distances up to 4 miles at a time.
  • Employees must be able to lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted.
  • This position requires the employee to work outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions as well as dust, pollen, plant life, insects, and wildlife.
  • Qualifications :

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Obtain NCS COPE Director or COPE Instructor Level 2 or higher.
  • Strong understanding of dynamic belay systems and zipline operations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain prior to camp start.
  • Ability to work at heights and perform physical tasks related to course operation and maintenance.
  • Available to work all summer
  • Ability to live on site during the summer season working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as program scheduling requires.
  • Have or be willing to obtain membership in Scouting America
  • Have or be willing to obtain Live Scan background check.
  • All camp staff must have a completed annual physical done by a medical provider prior to the start of the summer camp season
  • Summer camp experience preferred
