Position Overview

The organization is searching for a leader with a passion for impacting the next generation of leaders, strong moral character, and proven fundraising experience. This leader will serve as Chief executive officer of the council and give direction to the operations and administration of the council, subject to the authority and direction of the executive board. Serves as the secretary for the council, the executive board, and the executive committee. Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees of the executive board. Responsible for strategic planning, council and Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) objectives, fiscal stability, membership and growth management, volunteer and community relationships for the Scouting program and unit service within the council. Carries out other duties of the office as set forth in Article VI, Section 6 of the council bylaws.

Responsibilities

Is responsible for effectively managing a council with revenue of $8,000,000.

  • Membership: Establishes an action plan that results in balanced growth so all qualified youth may participate.
  • Safeguarding: Serve as the Chief Safeguarding Officer of the Council. Ensure that all recommended practices related to safe delivery of program to both youth and adult volunteer leaders are met.
  • Personnel: Recruits and trains a full complement of volunteers and staff to fulfill the council’s objectives.
  • Finance: Develops, in cooperation with the finance committee, a budget based on the council’s resources.
  • Program: Directs Scouting programs in the council including public relations, training, activities, camping, etc.
  • Administration: Provides general direction to the work of the council to ensure an efficient council operation.

  • Cultivating Networks: Initiating and maintaining strategic relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the organization (e.g., customers, peers, cross-functional partners, external vendors, and alliance partners) to advance business goals.
  • Selling the Vision: Vividly communicating a compelling view of the future state in a way that helps others understand and feel how business outcomes will be different when the vision and values become reality.
  • Customer Focus: Ensuring that the (internal/external) customer’s perspective is a driving force behind strategic priorities, business decisions, organizational processes, and individual activities, crafting and implementing service practices that meet customer’s and own organization’s needs, promoting and operationalizing customer service as a value.
  • Financial Acumen: Utilizing financial data to diagnose business strengths and weaknesses and identify the implications for potential strategies; keeping a financial perspective in the forefront when making strategic decisions.
  • Compelling Communications: Clearly and succinctly conveying information and ideas to individuals and groups; communicating in a focused and compelling way that captures and holds others’ attention.
  • Building Organizational Talent: Establishing systems and processes to attract, develop, engage, and retain talented individuals; creating a work environment where people can realize their full potential, thus allowing the organization to meet current and future business challenges.
Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Qualifications
  • Has history of successful and innovative fundraising (FOS, special events, product sales)
  • Skilled and Experienced in All Phases of Membership Growth Management
  • Capital Campaign Knowledge & Experience
  • Skilled in endowment growth
  • Has a proven track record in successfully managing staff
Benefits
  • Household moving (if necessary): Two estimates approved by the Council President
  • Other Interim Relocation: Negotiable
  • Relocation allowance (if necessary): 5% of new salary, less taxes.
  • Auto Plan- Personal auto with reimbursement of $500.00 a month plus .24 cents per business mile.
  • Cell phone reimbursement of $65 per month
  • Standard Scouting America Benefits Plan
    • Thrift plan: Yes, 50% match up to 9% of salary

Salary:

  • The council has set a range of $200,000- $250,000, with $250,000 the maximum salary
  • Performance-based bonuses available
