Overview
As an Upper School teacher, you will play a crucial role in shaping the academic and personal development of students during a critical period of their education. Under the supervision of the Upper School Division Head, your primary responsibility will be to create a positive and engaging learning environment where students can develop a strong foundation in Algebra I concepts. This position requires a passion for teaching, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum Development: Develop and implement an effective and engaging curriculum that aligns with the Tennessee state standards, ensuring students are prepared for future math courses. Establish clear learning targets for every lesson. Build rigorous and aligned lesson plans and assessments.
Classroom Instruction: Plan and deliver effective, differentiated instruction that caters to the diverse learning styles and abilities of middle school students. Consistently implement high leverage instructional practices and strategies.
Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess students' understanding of concepts through various methods, provide timely feedback, and adjust instruction based on data trends and student needs.
Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters a love for learning, respect, and cooperation among students. Positive relationships are evident, procedures are clear, and the classroom is safe and secure for learning. Student and teacher interactions promote a growth mindset.
Individualized Support: Identify and address the individual needs of students through one-on-one/small group assistance, additional resources, or differentiated instruction to ensure academic success.
Parental Communication: Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student progress, upcoming events, and opportunities for involvement in their child's education. Provide weekly feedback through timely grades. Consistently develop strong relationships with students’ families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and/or concerns about their children.
Professional Development: Stay current with educational trends, attend workshops, and participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and stay informed about advancements in education. Actively participate in professional learning opportunities with colleagues in order to improve teaching and student learning. Reflect on instruction while contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school.
Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues, participate in team meetings, and contribute to a positive and collaborative school culture. Ability to work collaboratively and positively with other teachers, administrators, and support staff.
Technology Integration: Integrate technology into the classroom to enhance learning experiences and prepare students for the digital demands of the 21st century.
Professional Responsibilities: Be aware of and follow all of the employee expectations and guidelines as outlined in the employee handbook. Have consistent attendance at school and arrive on time. Attend some after school events and extracurricular activities to foster positive and supportive relationships with students.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in education, Algebra, or a related field. A teaching credential/license is preferred.
Experience: Previous experience teaching high school Algebra is preferred but not mandatory. New graduates with a strong passion for teaching Algebra are encouraged to apply.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of high school Algebra curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment methods. Committed to high academic achievement and high expectations for all students
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and colleagues.
Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with educational technology tools and the ability to integrate them into the teaching and learning process.

Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.
