The Inventory Control Specialist orders parts using Caterpillar and allied vendor ordering systems while maintaining accurate inventory records in Microsoft Dynamics and analyzes reports. Analyzes master planning and/or vendor systems for replenishment of branch stock. Expedites parts as required by phone and computer to maintain satisfactory inventory levels and meet customer/shop needs.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2-3 years’ parts or Inventory Control experience or industry equivalent
- Willingness to learn and be trained
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and written and verbal communication skills
- Proven computers skills with knowledge of Microsoft products and the ability to quickly learn new software and systems
- Travel to branches or other locations as required to perform assigned duties
- Maintain a valid motor vehicle operators' license
- Maintain a high degree of discretion in handling confidential/sensitive information and exercise initiative in all assigned areas, high integrity and accountability standards
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics preferred
- Analytical, interpretive and basic mathematical skills required
- Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines
- Highly self-directed
- Assist work team to meet the objectives of the department and the Company
- Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English
- Ability to operate a P.C. (Windows, Excel, Word, etc.)
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment with rapidly changing priorities and demands
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Update & maintain parts record information in Microsoft Dynamics
- Analyze stock order reporting, update system files and place orders
- Duties performed require judgment, with ability to analyze, select and apply established procedures to accomplish assignments
- Perform expediting procedures on back ordered items to ensure desired inventory levels are maintained. Update purchase order documents as needed
- Place emergency parts orders and perform expediting procedures as needed to satisfy customer & shop needs
- Place stock orders for products included in vendor discount, promotional or future-dated order programs. Obtain optimum order discounts offered
- Qualify and request return authorization of surplus or unwanted inventory per vendor guidelines. Distribute authorization documents as needed
- Review Caterpillar service letters and other vendor-related publications with parts action taken as needed
- Assist with training new inventory control team members
- Recommend to manager ideas to improve the departments operating procedures or business practices and participate in and support continuous improvement of all related activities and processes
- Project a positive image by interacting with fellow employees, customers, and management in a cooperative, supportive, and courteous manner; display a professional attitude; comply with company dress code
- Create and maintain good communications (verbally and in writing) and relationships with other Company departments, branches, employees, outside vendors, and customers by addressing and resolving concerns quickly
- Follow all work, safety rules, and procedures
- Perform other duties as necessary and assigned
