Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Operates construction and power equipment such as an excavator, backhoe, mini-excavator, front end loader, skid loader, dump truck, and associated accessories
- Works with and assists crew in digging foundation trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment and any related work with a backhoe or front-end loader
- Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies
- Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects of repairs to supervisor, clean equipment
- Will assist carpenters and laborers when not engaging heavy equipment. This may be 50-75% of your time on days when equipment requirements are low.
- Performs other duties as required and assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- General knowledge of construction tools and equipment
- Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations, as well as ability to operate heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner
- Must be flexible regarding work assignments and ability to work a flexible work schedule during busy season
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Willingness to perform other support duties when needed
- Ability to work with various hand tools of the trade
- Ability to sit for long periods of time; approximately 95-100% of time on the job may be spent sitting
- Skills in inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects
- Skills in manual dexterity and motor coordination, including to quickly move hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Clean equipment as needed
- Ability to work well with others
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit verbal instructions in English
- Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
- Ability to use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things
Experience:
- Minimum of a High School degree or equivalent required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the construction industry as a medium-heavy equipment operator required
- Certification in operating heavy equipment required or ability to become certified
- Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to jobsites required
- License for crane operation is a plus
