How you’ll contribute…
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Performance Engineer to serve as the primary point of contact for acceptance and capacity testing of our engineering systems, including SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) platforms and renewable energy installations. Reporting to the Manager, SCADA & Performance Engineering, the Performance Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that all systems meet or exceed performance standards during the acceptance phase and are capable of handling projected operational loads. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise in SCADA systems, excellent project management skills, and the ability to effectively coordinate testing activities to support our commitment to operational excellence and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities…
Energy Modeling & Performance Analysis
- Utilize energy modeling software (PVsyst, Helioscope, SAM, or similar) to simulate and predict PV system performance under various conditions.
- Conduct performance benchmarking and data validation to compare expected vs. actual energy output.
- Develop and refine predictive models to optimize system performance and improve long-term forecasting.
- Integrate SCADA data and real-world performance metrics into energy models for improved accuracy.
System Diagnostics & Optimization
- Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting for underperforming PV systems, identifying losses due to shading, soiling, temperature variations, or equipment inefficiencies.
- Analyze inverter, tracker, and sensor data to pinpoint system inefficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
- Implement data-driven optimizations to maximize energy output and improve capacity factor.
- Provide technical recommendations for system design improvements and operational adjustments.
Acceptance & Capacity Testing
- Develop and execute acceptance test plans to verify system performance before commercial operation.
- Conduct capacity testing to evaluate the ability of PV plants and SCADA systems to handle peak loads.
- Analyze test results and coordinate corrective measures with Engineering and Operations teams.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, contractual requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
Project Coordination & Technical Communication
- Work closely with Engineering, Procurement, and Operations teams to ensure testing and optimization align with project timelines.
- Present performance reports, test findings, and optimization strategies to internal teams and stakeholders.
- Assist in the selection of monitoring technologies, sensors, and analytics tools to improve performance tracking.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain comprehensive records of test procedures, performance analyses, and corrective actions.
- Ensure all documentation adheres to company policies, industry standards (IEC, IEEE, UL, NEC), and regulatory requirements.
- Generate detailed reports on energy yield, system efficiency, and optimization opportunities.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Stay updated on advancements in PV system modeling, AI-driven diagnostics, and SCADA analytics.
- Develop and implement best practices for performance testing, predictive maintenance, and system optimization.
- Lead initiatives to enhance data analytics capabilities and streamline performance evaluation processes.
Training & Knowledge Sharing
- Provide training and technical support to engineering and operations teams on system performance evaluation and diagnostics.
- Support the onboarding of new engineers and field personnel with best practices in energy modeling and optimization.
What you’ll bring…
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in performance engineering, systems analysis, or a related role, preferably within the energy, utilities, or industrial sectors.
- Proven experience in coordinating acceptance and capacity testing for SCADA systems or similar industrial control systems.
- Familiarity with renewable energy technologies and their integration with SCADA platforms is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical skills to evaluate system performance, interpret complex data sets, and derive actionable insights.
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify root causes of performance issues and implement effective solutions.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
