Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures by preparing instruments and equipment.
- Provide basic care for animals, including feeding, bathing, and exercising.
- Maintain cleanliness in the clinic by cleaning cages, kennels, and examination rooms.
- Monitor animal behavior and report any changes or concerns to the veterinary team.
- Administer medications as directed by veterinarians or technicians.
- Help with animal restraint during examinations or treatments to ensure safety.
- Educate pet owners on proper pet care, nutrition, and hygiene practices.
- Assist in the preparation of surgical instruments and materials for procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of patient information, treatments, and medications.
Skills
The successful Veterinary Assistant will possess a combination of essential skills including:
- Aseptic technique: Knowledge of maintaining sterile environments during procedures.
- Pet care: Experience in providing daily care for pets including feeding, grooming, and exercise.
- Animal husbandry: Understanding of animal breeding, nutrition, and general welfare practices.
- Dog handling: Proficiency in managing various breeds safely and effectively.
- Dental terminology: Understanding of dental procedures and terminology related to animal dentistry.
- Animal restraint: Ability to safely hold or restrain animals during examinations or treatments.
