Job Summary:
To keep the district-owned facilities, building, and grounds, in a state of operating excellence that enhance the educational program, planning for and provide supervision of custodial staff. This position is considered an essential employee
Essential Duties:
- Responsible for the work routine and duties of custodial personnel on their assigned shift.
- Maintain inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies and equipment for the facility and report them to the head custodian.
- Accept the full responsibility of the cleaning, reporting of problems and grooming of facilities and grounds during their shift or in the head custodian’s absence.
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, polishes and waxes floors, dust and cleans offices, classrooms, etc.
- Assist, as directed, with the movement of furniture or equipment within the building as required for various activities.
- Perform ongoing preventive maintenance and minor repairs to custodial equipment and on plumbing, HVAC, electrical, building structure and hardware as instructed by head custodian.
- Assist visiting public using the facilities with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment and/or material.
- Perform or assist with snow removal and maintaining equipment.
- Maintain building and ground security by locking or instructing others to lock the appropriate areas of the facility each day.
- Ensure that the individuals that are under their supervision are able to utilize the time sheet software and are submitting time sheets on a weekly basis.
- Comply with all laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash and waste.
- Verify that all standards of cleanliness, health and safety are being maintained.
- Develop standard cleaning procedures to be used by custodians in cleaning the facility.
- Instruct staff, including substitutes, in the proper use and care of equipment and supplies.
- Establish work performance standards and plan work schedules for custodians.
- Report all repairs that are needed to the head custodian so work orders can be generated.
- Coordinate with Food Service Department in planning for the proper care and maintenance of equipment and supplies and the proper cleaning of food service areas.
- Maintain daily operation of building systems include occupied/unoccupied control.
- Report all personnel issues that may occur on their shift to the head custodian.
- Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by the Facilities Director, Head Custodian and Principal.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Demonstrated experience and competence in custodial services and building operation.
- Computer skills.
- Possess the ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
- Valid PA Driver's License.
- Supervisory experience.
- Completion of School Health Physical and TB test
- Completion of required background clearances o Act 34 - Criminal History Clearance o Act 151 - Child Abuse History Clearance o Act 114 - Federal Criminal Background Check
Physical Requirements:
- Visual and auditory acuity
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Ability to reach above and below the waist
- Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
- Some stooping, bending and twisting of the body required
- Ability to lift and/or carry materials up to 90 lbs.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk or move throughout the property and buildings for extended periods of the workday.
