ABOUT THE POSITION
Responsible for all aspects of food production in assigned school, keeping within sanitation, food cost, food quality and scheduling guidelines.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires:
- A high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate as required by Kentucky law.
- Complete state, Department of Education, School Food Service Statewide Training Program or equivalent preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Manage, coordinate and oversee the day-to-day food service operations at an assigned school kitchen.
- Assure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain, prepare and review a variety of menu production records, inventories, logs, and input information into a computer as appropriate and file as necessary.
- Train and assist employees in the proper handling and preparation of food, as well as the correct use and care of kitchen equipment.
- Inspect kitchen area daily to assure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Operate computer and Point of Sale (POS) machines.
- Reconcile final count of cash from breakfast and lunch receipts.
- Ready cash for shipment and deposit daily in an authorized depository.
- Correspond with students, parents, and principals to collect outstanding meal charge balances.
- Ensure that all equipment in the cafeteria area is in safe, working condition and notify the appropriate authority when repairs are needed.
- Communicate with the Food Service Director in the ordering of food and supplies.
- Plan work schedules and coordinate daily work for efficient use of labor, receive calls from employees and call substitutes as necessary.
- Assist in meal preparation.
- Plan and implement activities that increase school and community relations and increase student participation.
- Maintain a minimum of ten (10) hours of professional training annually per the 2010 Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Strict adherence to the Policies and Procedures of the Boyle County Board of Education, the Employee Handbook and Kentucky Revised Statutes.
- Fulfilling contractual obligation of days worked.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Cooks as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel; will reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and required to bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing duties of this job.
- Continual use of hand strength to grasp tools.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Frequently walks on slippery surfaces. Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
- Requires activities involving being around commercial cooking equipment, exposure to marked changes in temperature, frequently working in an environment with extreme temperatures changes.
- The employee has a greater than average risk of getting a minor injury such as a cut or burn while performing the duties of this job.
- The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
