Overview
The Sugarloaf Accounting team is looking for an intern to join them for this coming summer. A Sugarloaf Accounting Intern assists in the accounting, planning, reporting, and analysis of assigned business activity for the company. This role will learn to perform GAAP-compliant accounting and controls for specific assigned areas and will provide support to Sugarloaf business partners in budget development and management.
We anticipate a part time opening for this internship role for the 2025 summer season. Start and end dates can be flexible, but a June start and an August end would be best.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this role will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Preparing required recurring analysis, including an explanation of variances and recommendations for finance/business partners.
- Collaborating with business partners and gaining a full understanding of the business context to better anticipate potential issues, explain variances, and support the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts. This includes but is not limited to gathering and sharing data in assigned areas and providing prior period and budget vs actual comparison of results.
- Reviewing assigned Profit & Loss (P&L) statements to ensure reasonableness and accuracy. Researching abnormal situations and identifying variances. Making recommendations on correcting actions and entries.
- Preparing financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and gross profit reports for location, and reconciling balance sheet accounts with external reports.
- Preparing revenue analyses, expenses, and account balances to ensure financial controls are in place to minimize unexpected results.
- Participating in the review of various expenses and collect information for audits as requested.
Qualifications
The ideal fit for this internship role will
- be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in an Accounting/Finance field of study and have some work-related experience in a related role.
- have a general understanding of accounting principles and GAAP
- be proficient in Microsoft Excel
- have experience with financial systems and software (e.g. GL package, financial reporting systems)
- have strong communication skills and be able to work as part of a team
