The Sugarloaf Snowsports Director is responsible for the overall operations, planning, and financial health of the Snowsports School, as well as the overall vision for Sugarloaf's learning programs and terrain.
Our Snowsports Division is a blend of full time and part time seasonal employees, supporting robust lesson participation and significant revenue generation across a blend of daily, seasonal, and private lesson programs. The Snowsports Director will demonstrate a collaborative approach to business strategy, growth, and resort management, and will shape a best-in-class guest and team member experience that increases the overall long-term value of the resort and school.
This role oversees all sliding disciplines and Snowsports educational programs across Sugarloaf's terrain. The Director is a pivotal leadership position at Sugarloaf. As part of the Resort Services leadership team, they will have input on resort-wide issues, work across departments, and collaborate with resorts in the Boyne network.

Responsibilities
Leadership
- Provide leadership and direction for the department's vision and programming. This includes setting goals, developing strategies, and implementing plans to achieve Sugarloaf’s objectives.
- Responsible for achieving resort goals for service and revenues.
- Oversee and build a high functioning leadership team that manages the department’s administrative requirements such as payroll, scheduling, and staff lesson approvals, reservations and Lesson Desk sales.
- Work closely and effectively with other Resort Divisions and Departments to ensure delivery of superior products and services.
Program Development
- Develop and implement comprehensive Snowsports programs across all disciplines and product offerings. This includes daily group and private lessons, as well as seasonal programs (multi-week lessons).
Staff Management, Certification, and Development
- Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and training of Snowsports leadership, instructors, and other staff members
- Responsible for ensuring evaluations of employees' performance each season, providing feedback, and conducting regular staff meetings to ensure the smooth operation of all programs.
- Responsible for developing onboarding and continuing educational and certification training for staff to grow staff retention and to strengthen the educational product provided by the school.
- Work closely with educational leadership and credentialing programs of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI) to enhance the product provided to the Sugarloaf Staff and guests.
Safety and Risk Management
- Responsible for implementing and enforcing safety protocols and procedures.
Budgeting and Financial Management
- Oversee the financial operations of the Snowsports program, including budget creation, monitoring, pricing strategies, and revenue enhancement through innovative program management and development.
Marketing and Promotion
- Work closely with Resort Marketing team on pricing strategy as well as promoting the snowsports program through various marketing channels. This can include creating advertising campaigns, managing social media accounts, and collaborating with the marketing department to attract new participants and retain existing ones.
Qualifications
The ideal fit for this role will:
- have a passion for skiing/riding and for sharing their love of the sport with others.
- ski/ride at an intermediate to expert level and maintain PSIA-AASI Level Two Certification (or higher) and/or equivalent international credential.
- possess a minimum of three full-time seasons (12 months) of professional Snowsports instruction experience, with a preference for summer operations background.
- be able to learn and master various software platforms including Microsoft Office, RTP, Flaik, and other resort systems. Experience with these systems is preferred.
- have a minimum of 5 years prior management and leadership experience in a Snowsports school of similar size and scope required.
- thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy connecting quickly with many new people in a poised and enthusiastic way.
