Position Description:
Job Title: Recreation & Sports Activity Leader
Classification: Non-Exempt
Hours Per Week: Monday - Friday, 2:00pm-6:15 pm, Wednesday 1:00-6:00pm - Additional Hours Available in AM
Salary: $16.50 - $18:00 per hour depending on experience and education
Reports to: Site Coordinator/Director
Locations: Lake Forest
Primary Function:
- Under the supervision of the Site Director, the sports, fitness & recreation activity leader will assist the program directors to implement and supervise activities for youth ages 5-14. Guiding members to participate in recreational games, activities and organized sports to learn basic game/sports fundamentals, good sportsmanship and development of healthy lifestyles in a safe, fun and creative environment. Ensure warm up, drills and cool down exercises are included with every body movement session, which includes staff and volunteers. Recognize and celebrate youth development success daily and monthly by participating with Boys & Girls Clubs of America specialized competitions and recognition programs. Create an opportunity for members to showcase their athletic and mental talents with seasonal sports/game leagues, clinics, showcases, or tournaments when invited or presented. Flexibility to assist in other program areas may be required. Also adhere to safety policies and procedures regarding COVID-19 which includes; Physical distancing, sanitation procedures, CPR/First Aid recertification, amended first aid response procedures, protection from infection protocols, etc.
Key Roles:
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes.
- Promote and stimulate program participation.
- Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
- Demonstrates leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of club members.
- Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the facility at all times.
- Deliver a weekly calendar of activities as designed by the Branch/Program Director, offer ideas to create a variety of activities, thematic to the season, and information is delivered to the director in a timely manner.
- Ensure to follow the activity calendar as posted for club members to review and participate.
- Ensure safety of members and provide a productive work environment by participating in weekly/monthly/quarterly staff meetings.
- Greet members and parents enthusiastically, using his or her first name as soon as he or she enters the Club or program area.
- Daily promote positive relationship building.
- Redirect negative behavior with positive communication.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and communicate with Branch Director when ordering is required.
- Set and maintain appropriate standards of behavior using positive reinforcement, while supporting children's self-esteem.
- Reports injuries and completes required forms.
- Daily keep program area clean, neat and organized.
- Complete housekeeping and facility maintenance duties as assigned.

- Skills/knowledge Required:
- High School Diploma or GED or attending college or re-entering the job market.
- Experience working with children/youth/teens.
- Knowledge of youth development.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Knowledge of group dynamics and age=appropriate activities for school-age children/youth/teens.
- Good computer literacy with multiple computer applications.
- Valid CA drivers license.
- Plus Bilingual capabilities in Spanish.
