Position Title: Kitchen Manager / Prep Cook / Transportation Support

Reports to: Branch Director at Assigned Location
Status: Part-Time, Non-exempt, $16.54/hour

Scope of Position:
The Kitchen Manager / Prep Cook is responsible for the daily operation of the kitchen and the food and beverage service. The position includes preparing and serving meals, cleaning, inventory and control of supplies. Ensure that optimum sanitation, hygiene and safety standards of kitchen, food service area and food storage is consistently maintained.
Transportation Support is responsible for providing daily shuttle services between schools and the Club using one of the Boys & Girls Club’s 14-passenger Minotour buses.
Education and Work Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in food service experience, prep cook, line cook or a combination of, preferred.
- Prior experience in kitchen documentation management or similar field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Food Handler’s Card (or the ability to obtain immediately upon hire)
- ServSafe certification preferred.
- Mandatory current CPR and First Aid Certification – can be acquired through work training.
- At least 21 years of age at time of application for qualified vehicle insurance coverage.
- Prior experience as a van/bus driver preferred.
- Safely operate a motor vehicle that could include passenger van or Minotour bus.
- Ability to plan, prepare and cook attractive and nutritious meals.
- Ability to monitor and maintain food inventory to ensure food freshness and stability.
- Knowledge of standard kitchen appliances, tools and equipment.
- Ability to operate and keep in working condition kitchen appliances, tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning supplies to be used in cleaning and sanitation of a kitchen and prep area.
- Knowledge of proper food storage in cabinets, refrigerator and freezer.
- Ability to train, plan, and direct the work of others; organize, prioritize, plan own work tasks and multitask.
- Creativity and flexibility are a must.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Food Prep and Service:
- Cook, prep, and otherwise prepare meals.
- Serve meals to an average 80 children daily.
- Assist with daily meal count (meals prepared vs. meals served)
- Assist with basic safety, supervision, and management of youth (ages 6 – 18) during meal time; ensure youth receive/take a full meal during service.
- Comply with health regulations and ensure safe food practices are followed as established by Marion County and the State of Oregon.
Cleaning and Organization:
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of kitchen area, including storage cabinets, refrigerators, freezer, floors, etc.
- Ensure cleanliness of cafeteria, tables, and kitchen storage area.
- Ensure trash and recycling are removed from the kitchen and cafeteria daily.
- Basic cleaning duties include: wiping down counters and service areas, sweeping floor, mopping floor, using dish washer and dish sink to clean utensils and cooking materials.
- Clean out refrigerators and freezers monthly.
Inventory, Paperwork, and Documentation:
- Complete required food service paperwork in accordance with meal service requirements.
- Ensure required meal service paperwork, binders, and/or reference materials are orderly and accessible.
Other Essential job Responsibilities
- General safety and supervision of youth.
- Act as a role model for youth and build positive relationships with them.
- Management of kitchen volunteers, teen volunteers, and other kitchen staff.
- Ensure safety and cleanliness of facilities, including maintaining functionality of equipment.
- Help prepare and purchase items for long program or no school days.
- Follow all Boys & Girls Club policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be well groomed and adhere to the required dress code.
- Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminishing performance.
- Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist body, stand for short/long periods of time, kneel, push, pull, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds unassisted, climb stairs, close vision, distance vision, talk, hear, have eye-hand coordination, have mental dexterity, speak, read and work in noisy areas, as these movements are a regular requirement of this position.

This position may have frequent phone and in person contact with people from diverse backgrounds and in diverse circumstances who may be angry, hostile, confused or frustrated.
This position requires the mental aptitude to organize projects, set priorities, calculate, catalogue, inspect, analyze plans, comprehend, and cooperate with others. Therefore, the employee must be able to comprehend assignments and/or ask for additional information or clarification until the assignment is understood.
The employee will work on several projects at once with interruptions and noise from large groups of children, walk-in traffic, multiple deadlines, and competing/changing priorities.
Will be exposed to a range of temperatures inside and outside of the building, heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, humidity, dust.
Additional requirements:
- Ability to pass a drug and alcohol screening test.

- Must have a valid Oregon driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Must successfully pass BGCA driving test requirements.
