FLSA STATUS: Full-Time (40/week), Exempt
Pay Rate: $39,520/year starting
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Teen Services Specialist, in partnership with the Teen Services Director, is responsible for designing the middle school curriculum for Great by 8th and supporting Teen Coordinators through training and guidance for facilitating their workshops. They will conduct weekly or bi-weekly meetings with the coordinators to provide opportunities for practice, skill-building, and training in trauma-informed practices and BGCA practices. Additionally, they will visit the clubs twice a month to assist Teen Coordinators in running workshops and offer observational feedback to develop individualized plans that enhance confidence and professional growth. The specialist will also provide activities aligned with our priority outcomes: Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles. Serving as the primary contact for Teen Services, the Teen Services Specialist will play a key role in implementing Great by 8th in club branches.
Note: this is a grant-funded position. Annual renewal is contingent on the continuation of grant funding.
KEY ROLES:
Prepare Youth for Success
- Implement programs, services and activities that prepare youth for success, promoting safety of members and quality in programs at all times. Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of the strategic plan by:
- Planning, organizing and implementing a range of program services and activities related to job and life skills development; including overseeing the middle school Summer curriculum for Great by 8th.
- Recommending the development of new programs and services; and
- Promoting and stimulating program participation.
- Regularly assess the workshop’s success against program goals, suggest changes based on member needs, and actively contribute to weekly staff meetings for continuous improvement.
Health and Safety
- Ensure a healthy environment, promoting safety of members and ensuring quality in programs at all times for all participants.
- Implement strategies for conflict resolution and create a safe space for open communication among members.
- In partnership with the Senior Teen Services Director they will facilitate workshops twice a month with a trauma-informed lens, providing additional and tailored support to Teen Coordinators as needed.
- Collaborate with Teen Services staff to ensure a productive, respectful, inclusive, and safe work environment.
Program Development and Implementation
- Purchase supplies, stay within budget, and collaborate in co-facilitating workshops across all branches.
- Will create diverse workshop topics, service projects, college tours drawing on feedback from Teen Coordinators and input from teen members.
- Collect and input GB8 program data into My Club Hub following each workshop.
- Enhance program participation across all branches by employing creative strategies.
- Participate in community outreach, under the guidance of the Senior Teen Services Director, to actively encourage engagement and interest in the programs.
Supervision
- Provide direct support and feedback to Teen Coordinators by modeling good facilitation skills.
- Train and provide direct supervision to Teen Coordinators as needed.
- Act as the point person for Teen Services when facilitating GB8 workshops in club branches.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- On occasion, the Teen Services Specialist may be required to work special events throughout the year.
- This position will be required to drive the club van and/or bus.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Stay in regular communication with BGC staff, program members, and supervisor. This includes but is not limited to exchanging information, explaining guidelines or instructions, discussing issues, and sharing/receiving constructive feedback.
External: Assist the Teen Services Director as needed in maintaining communication with external community partners, schools, and parents of members. Support the organization's initiatives to engage the higher education community in teen programming through partnerships with universities, collaborations with career and trade schools, organizing college tours, and facilitating scholarship opportunities.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and facilitate workshops for youth grades 6-8th.
- Ability to speak in public, with prior experience presenting in individual and group settings.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Proficient in computer use, Zoom Video Program, Microsoft Office suite applications and Google Drive.
- Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (within 90 days).
- Valid State Driver’s License.
- Ability to pass drug tests and background checks.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
- Prior experience working with grant-funded programs is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to speak, hear, and maintain high mental and visual attention at all times.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, be able to stand and sit for extended periods and be able to walk moderate distances.
- Ability to travel between locations and attend meetings outside of regular operating hours.
- Typical work hours: School Year - 9am-5pm (Summer hours 8am – 4pm), Monday-Friday with 1 hour break daily; Some weekend hours may be necessary.
- Ability to drive a 14 passenger bus, with a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of application.
