ABOUT US:
Are you passionate about art, reading, STEM, or sports? Share your talent with the youth of Sonoma Valley. Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley is looking for enthusiastic individuals who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of middle-school-aged youth.
Under the direction of our Program Directors, this position will support our club programs for elementary school youth in the afternoon to early evening. Program Assistants provide direct service to our club members. Qualified candidates will be passionate about youth development, possess special skills or interests that they are enthusiastic about sharing with our members, such as artistic or athletic abilities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Start day at Maxwell Clubhouse, followed by Altimira Middle School to prepare and lead programming activities on-site during the afterschool program times.
- Assist in administrative tasks up to and including communication in shift coverage, site maintenance, and other administrative tasks as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining the facility, equipment, and supplies.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in Employee Handbook and elsewhere.
- Adhere to Boys & Girls Club philosophy.
- Perform other duties as assigned, aligned with your training, skills, and expertise.
Programs:
- Supervise members to ensure that programs adhere to Club philosophy and run effectively.
- Work with Program Director developing and implementing daily program(s) activities compatible with Boys & Girls Clubs core values and department themes.
- At minimum write one program for each quarter. Attend program writing training(s).
- Print programs and handouts as needed for daily activities.
- Locate and print Hylas online materials for all Power Hour K-8th grade groups.
- Collaborate with Program Director to create, further develop, and execute lunchtime activities.
- Take photos using the club phone.
Safety:
- Responsible for the care, safety, and supervision of children ages 5-11 years.
- Conduct weekly checks of fanny pack and backpack supplies. Inform Program Director of any required supply purchases.
- Complete safey inciden/accident reports for any accident/incident or reoccuring behavior problems.
Attendance Management:
- Oversee sign-in/sign-out procedures for all members at dedicated site.
- Prepare end-of-day and monthly attendance reports.
- Update attendance records retroactively as needed.
- Conduct quick counts to ensure accurate attendance tracking.
- Generate and analyze attendance reports.
- Assist in contacting families with low attendance.
Redwood Empire Food Bank Coordination:
- Complete training and quizzes related to Redwood (RFB) procedures.
- Serve meals at the site following RFB guidelines.
- Handle RFB paperwork and documentation.
- Every Monday, submit the meal count form and MTS attendance, and place orders for the following week.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Graduate
- Available Monday-Friday 11:00 am to 6:30 pm, including 30-minute to 1 hour meal break.
- Flexible and patient
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Basic understanding of various stages of child development.
- Occasional weekends needed for special events or activities.
- Commitment to following safety and procedural guidelines.
- Ability to pass the Sonoma Valley Unified School District’s instructional aide test with a 70% or better.
- Ability to pass a DOJ fingerprint clearance (if 18 or older) and provide a negative TB test.
- Complete and pass mandated reporter training.
- Ability to lift or carry items up to 40 lbs.
- Reliable transportation
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience working with middle-school-aged children in a group setting.
- Able to lead programs and variety of activities for children ages 11-14 years.
- Ability to be certified in CPR and First Aid.
- Bilingual a plus
