TITLE: Work-Based Learner
REPORTS TO: Workforce Readiness Supervisor
WAGES: $13-$15 Hour
STATUS: Non-Exempt, Part time Hourly- Seasonal
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Workbased Learners are Muskegon County highschool Students age 9th-12th grade and age 14-18. This position is for part time and seasonal work. Under the direction and supervision of the workforce supervisor, Workbased learners will perform delegated tasks to fulfill workforce contracts for various Boys & Girls club partners. During the School Year working hours will be immediately after school. During summer break the workforce will operate from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Additional Job assignments may take place on weekends.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Perform general park cleanup and maintenance, including landscaping and groundskeeping.
Use equipment such as weed wackers and lawnmowers to maintain park grounds.
Assist with environmental services, including restroom upkeep and sanitation in public park facilities.
Collect and properly dispose of trash and recycling to keep parks clean.
Support special parks and recreation programs, such as community events and activities.
Follow safety procedures and report any maintenance issues to supervisors.

✔ Be the Voice – Share ideas and give feedback on what’s needed to make programs even better.
✔ Represent the Club – Get involved in community events and show off your leadership skills.
✔ Lead & Problem-Solve – Take charge when challenges come up and help make things run smoothly.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with WorkForce supervisor to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Has regular contact with members as needed to advise, train and counsel.
External: Maintains positive relationships with community organizations, local businesses, and volunteers to support programs and events. Engages with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to provide updates and encourage participation. Represents the organization in public settings to build partnerships, promote initiatives, and enhance community involvement.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Currently enrolled in a Muskegon County Education System, maintaining a 2.0 or higher GPA and 90% School attendance.
- Must be able to obtain youth worker permit prior to beginning employment
- Must be enrolled as a Boys & Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshore Member
- Communication skills – good written and oral communication skills and the ability to relate to supervisor and the public (donors, stakeholders, board members, etc)
- Decision making skills – good judgment, systemic thinking, problem solving, performance organization and time management. Identify common elements, themes and risks in situations and actions.
- Organizational Skills- Demonstrate organizational and project management abilities.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds for short periods of time.
- Must be able to participate in physical activities throughout the facility, on the property and/or on field trips.
