Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Mental Health, the MSW Social Worker is a critical member of the Mental Health and Impact Teams. The Social Worker-MSW provides comprehensive mental and behavioral health support as well as strengths-based case management services for children and families promoting success within the Club, school, home and community. The MSW Social Worker is part of a team of mental health professionals who are charged with providing trauma informed care in day-today interactions, supports, and referrals. This position will begin by focusing on the needs at specified Clubs, but at times may support at other Clubs or may adjust their focus depending on Club needs.
The Social Worker-MSW organizes and leads individual conversations and short-term social emotional learning groups for members addressing issues/topics including, but not limited to, anger management, anxiety, grief and loss, sexuality, self-esteem. They will advocate for services and provide short-term goal-oriented individual and family ongoing support, crisis intervention, conflict resolution and mediation.
Additionally, the Social Worker-MSW provides leadership within the mental health team and Club staff as a whole. They will be expected to develop uniquely identified areas of expertise, which they are then able to share with the rest of the organization. They will develop and lead specialized trainings based on mental health team and organizational needs and will proactively identify gaps and opportunities in social emotional learning within the Clubs. They may develop external partnerships and explore opportunities for individual and organizational growth.
Because club models vary, individual schedules will also vary. Individual hours will be set by supervisors in increments of 8 hours between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm. Exceptions will be rare and must be approved in writing.
Job Duties:
- Create positive and supportive relationships: Build rapport with Club members, identify and target areas of need within Clubs based on meaningful relationships, consistently serve as a positive role model for youth.
- Behavior interventions: Identify, assess, and intervene effectively with mental health symptoms and behaviors.
- Create/Implement SEL program services: Create and adapt evidence-based programming to meet club members developmental needs.
- Coaching and support: Provide insight and consultation to fellow Club staff members around working with challenging behavior and engaging Club members.
- Flexibility in ever-changing settings: Provide support for club members in a variety of settings while utilizing an SEL framework.
- Community resource networking: Collaborate with outside neighborhood and community agencies.
- Case management: Maintain accurate detailed observation and progress records and complete necessary electronic data entry. Identifies trends in data to assist in collaborative service planning.
- Develop and facilitate specific trainings and SEL staff development: Collaborate and innovate in developing meaningful advanced trainings for the mental health team and other staff.
- Develop leadership area: Identify and develop unique area(s) of expertise based on individual professional skills and Club/organizational needs.
- Leadership within mental health team: Provide consultation or direct support to other Clubs and mental health staff when the Director of Mental Health/Lead Social Worker are not available (ie., suicide risk screens, mandated report determination, etc).
