Description
Primary Function:
BGCT Bus/Van Driver is responsible for safely operating the BGCT bus, transporting Club members in a professional and responsible way, and represents self as a positive, caring, respectful role model for Club members and general public.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a 15-passenger van or bus, adhering to all traffic laws and organizational safety protocols.
- Transport youth participants and staff to program locations, events, and activities.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and report any maintenance issues.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderly conditions within the vehicle.
- Ensure the safety of all passengers, assisting with boarding and seating when necessary.
- Monitor the behavior of youth during transit and manage any issues in a calm and supportive manner.
- Maintain accurate transportation logs, including mileage, fuel usage, and trip details.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, program staff, and youth participants regarding schedules, pick-up, and drop-off times.
- Follow established emergency procedures in the event of an accident or breakdown.
- Support staff with program-related tasks as needed while ensuring the vehicle is parked securely.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Valid Kansas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement.
- Proven experience as a bus or van driver, preferably working with youth or community programs.
- Strong understanding of vehicle safety practices and traffic regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle behavioral challenges constructively.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- A clean driving record and the ability to pass a background check.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of youth development practices and safety standards.
- Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods and operate a vehicle safely.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds if needed for passenger assistance or equipment loading.
- Work schedule, primarily after school hours but additional hours may be necessary based on program needs.
