Primary Function
The Health and Wellness Director position is pivotal in spearheading comprehensive Nutrition Services and developing top-notch programs aimed at enhancing the well-being of youth and teens. They excel in designing, implementing, and integrating programs that empower youth and teens to embrace positive behaviors. The HWD sets a model of creating a nurturing and safe environment that fosters lifelong well-being by nurturing the physical, emotional, and mental health of youth/teens. The HWD inspires a trauma-informed Club culture that contributes to sustained longevity and success in membership across all locations.
Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities)
Leadership
- Building the Health and Wellness program across all sites focusing on physical, social, and emotional wellness of youth and teens.
- Development of key health and wellness skills that include self-efficacy, identifying emotions, identifying, and solving problems, resistance skills and health communication.
- Provide opportunities to build foundational skills of developing relationships, regulating emotions, and solving problems.
- Building health promotion skills i.e. communication and decision making through exploring a range of health topics and behaviors, including substance abuse, sexual behavior, and violence.
- Assess through observation how well staff are implementing health and wellness activities and practices.
- Create feedback loops and or debriefing sessions for staff to evaluate how they feel their health and wellness programs are going.
- Engage staff in collecting and analyzing health and wellness program data to identify strengths and areas for improvement
- Engage staff in developing and executing actions plans to address areas of improvement. Evaluate and utilize data (pulse checks, member engagement, NYOI (National Youth Outcomes Initiative), enrollment, average daily attendance etc.) to determine satisfaction, impact, and achievement of output.
- Ensure the assessment of health and wellness programs is ongoing, improvement plans are developed, implemented, progress assessed, and improvement plan revised.
- Cultivate a collaborative partnership with Operations leadership team to drive positive cultural shifts in health and wellness programs.
- Inspire the Nutrition Team to transform nutrition from a mere "service" into a comprehensive program embodying the five key elements—safe and positive environment, supportive relationships, opportunities and expectations, recognition, and fun.
Resource Management
- Management and oversight of the budget allocated for health and wellness programs, nutrition services, and personnel, ensuring funds are utilized effectively and in alignment with organizational goals, grant requirements and established budget.
- Make sure program specific grant awards are managed with utmost integrity, precision, and proficiency.
- Certify program specific grant deliverables are achieved or surpassed in accordance with established timelines.
- Ensure compliance with fund requirements allocated to health and wellness programs.
- Fostering collaborative relationships with stakeholders for program expansion, advancing program quality and Achieving health and wellness outcomes and impact
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with community partners for resources, supplies, and equipment
Program Development
- Plan, develop, implement, and ensure healthy lifestyle programs, services, and incorporate activities into daily, weekly, and summer enrichment program schedules.
- Collaborate with Club staff on activities offered and create effective and meaningful opportunities that engage teen members in healthy lifestyle programs.
- Oversee program evaluations and monthly reports.
- Set standards and goals to meet grant deliverables and meet reporting deadlines.
- Identify, propose, and plan for changes in the health and wellness programming arising from member’s needs.
- Advised the VP of Program Management and Quality Assurance on program activities and needs.
- Plan and coordinate opportunities for various guest speakers to attend the Clubs and share their experiences, specialties, and community events.
- Support, empower, and engage teens in managing, operating, and maintaining the Teen Center Food Pantry.
Partnership Development
- Ensure that external collaborative partners align with BGCT values and mission.
- Prioritize establishing and nurturing external relationships crucial for delivering, providing, and accessing high-quality and impactful health and wellness programs across all sites. These relationships may include collaborations with local healthcare providers, community organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions.
- Work with the VP of Program Management and Quality Assurance to draft Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) detailing responsibilities, expectations, and requirements for both BGCT and the partner and is signed by CEO.

Qualifications
Knowledge / Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in education, physical education, social work or related disciplines or a minimum of 4 years work experience in a Boys and Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young children, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of youth development principles and developmental characteristics
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage complex initiatives with varied deliverables
- Interpersonal skill development and maintenance
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to train, inspire and motivate others
- Ability to deal effectively with conflict and concerning behaviors
- Demonstrate excellent teamwork skills and collaboration to achieve successful outcomes
