Primary Function
The Nutrition Coordinator manages the food service program for the BGCT Adams Club, Teen Center and Montara Unit. This role ensures that healthy meals are provided to Club members in compliance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the Afterschool Meals Program, following the guidelines set by the food programs administrative handbooks.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Menu Planning and Food Preparation
- Develop nutritious menus for snacks, lunches, and dinners that comply with dietary requirements.
- Ensure food preparation meets health and safety standards.
- Prepare and serve food items that meet nutritional guidelines.
Vendor and Supply Management
- Act as the liaison with food and beverage vendors.
- Inspect food items and supplies for quality and accuracy in orders.
- Manage inventory to ensure availability of items required for menu needs.
Sanitation and Safety Compliance
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in food preparation, storage, and serving areas.
- Monitor the kitchen and dining room for safe operations.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is functional and up to safety standards.
Documentation and Reporting
- Complete all required documentation, such as KN-Eat claims and yearly audits, in a timely manner.
- Stay updated on all CACFP and SFSP requirements and certifications.
Team Supervision and Training
- Supervise Nutrition Department staff, including scheduling and managing work hours.
- Coordinate training sessions for nutrition staff, ensuring continuous professional development.
Site Monitoring and Compliance
- Routinely monitor multiple qualifying centers to ensure compliance with CACFP and SFSP standards.
- Communicate effectively with Supervisor, Club Directors and Nutrition Assistants.
Budget and Resource Management
- Oversee food and supply purchases within budgetary guidelines.
- Maintain manuals for kitchen equipment and food handling procedures.
Partnerships and Program Liaison
- Serve as the primary contact for the KSDE regarding CACFP and SFSP programs, ensuring compliance with grant and program standards.
Communication and Public Outreach
- Post and distribute menus in compliance with licensing and grant requirements.
- Maintain open lines of communication with staff regarding nutrition programs.
Other Duties
- Approve timesheets for Nutrition Department staff.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Complete necessary training within 30 days of hire and every three years thereafter (CACFP At-Risk Training, Food Safety, CACFP Admin Workshop, Civil Rights).
Working Conditions

Knowledge / Skills Required

- Ability to manage and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
