Who We Are: We serve more than 3,500 kids across 28 locations making us a pillar in Greater Austin for youth empowerment. Our members range from ages 5 to 18 across Travis county at schools, community centers, and public housing sites. BGCAA is a fun, highly collaborative, and dynamic community. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Safely and timely transports Club members and staff to designation location. Ensures a safe environment for all at all times.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Follows safety rules as Club members and staff board and exit the bus or crosses the street
- Complies with traffic regulations to operate bus or vehicle in a safe and courteous manner
- Reports any bus malfunctions or needed repairs in a timely manner
- Checks the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, fuel, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in proper working order
- Picks up and drop off Club members and staff at designated location, following strict time schedules
- Maintains order among Club members during trips to ensure safety and reports delinquent student behaviors to Club leadership
- Enforces Club rules and policies
- Maintains a professional and role-model persona
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains knowledge of first-aid procedures
- Reports delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations, using telephones or mobile two-way radios
- Keep bus interior clean
- Prepares and serves food adhering to strict procedures
- Attends staff meetings and training sessions as prescribed
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Maintain close daily contact with Club staff and Club members to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instruction
- Maintain contact with external community groups, school administration, members’ parents and others
HOURS:
School time: Part time hours (12-20 hours a week) during the school year: 1:00pm to 8:00pm; Mon-Fri.
Out of school time (i.e. summer, winter, and/or spring break) may vary, but will remain a part-time position. Out of school time hours may range from 7:00am – 8:00pm.
Occasional nights or weekends may be required for training, field trips, or other Club-related activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Current CDL Class B Passenger Endorsement license required
- Department of Transportation Medical Release
- 1 years’ experience driving a bus, preferably as school bus
- No at-fault accidents in the last 5 years and overall clean driving record
- 21 years, hold a valid Texas Driver’s License, personal insurance, and insurable through our organizational driver policy
- Must pass background check, reference check, drug test, driving record background check
- Must be able to work and interact professionally
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 years’ experience driving a bus, preferably as school bus
- Spanish speaking preferred
- Demonstrates dependability, accountability, and cooperation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Preferred ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Preferred ability to work in various weather conditions—hot, cold, rainy, etc
- Preferred ability to meet physical demands
- Preferred ability to move equipment up to 25 pounds
- Preferred ability to endure periodically noisy environments (in the context of working with youth)
