Primary Function: 

The Program Specialist will be responsible for organizing and implementing fun high yield learning activities that center around math, reading, writing, science, technology, arts/crafts, career preparation, health/life skills, and character/leadership. Creates lesson plans derived from the list of BGCAA’s curriculum categories, set up materials, facilitates, and evaluates programming activities for youth to ensure enrichment programming is successful.   Enters member data and participation into database.  The Program Specialist will assist with ensuring a safe environment for club members and staff.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data enters member data and participation into database
  • Creates lesson plans and prepares materials for programming
  • Leads activities designed to foster students’ mental, physical, and social development
  • Works with youth individually or in groups to facilitate programming
  • Provides feedback to Club youth using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students
  • Enforces Club rules and policies
  • Maintains a professional and role-model persona

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Checks in and/or out youth attending Club adhering to procedures
  • Takes daily class attendance and maintain accurate records
  • Supervises youth in various settings including classrooms, cafeteria, playground, multipurpose rooms, and field trips
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the Club area
  • Prepares and serves food adhering to strict procedures
  • Attends staff meetings and training sessions as prescribed
  • May be required to drive a shuttle bus or Club transportation
  • Perform Club leadership duties as requested
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Maintain close daily contact with Club staff and Club members to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instruction
  • Maintain contact with external community groups, school administration, members’ parents and others.

 

Hours:

  • School time: Part time hours (approx. 29 hours a week) during the school year: 1:00pm to 7:00pm; Mon-Fri
  • Out of school time (i.e. summer, winter, and/or spring break) may vary, but will remain a part-time position.   Out of school time hours may range from 7:00am – 7:00pm.
  • Occasional nights or weekends may be required for training, field trips, or other Club-related activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Must pass background check, reference check, and drug test
  • Must be able to work and interact professionally
  • Proficient with computer equipment
  • Ability to have adequate vision and hearing to ensure the safety of Club youth; and complete data entry requirement

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in education or related field preferred
  • At least one year of relevant experience in an educational or childcare setting
  • May be required to drive a shuttle bus, valid state driver's license may be required.
  • Spanish speaking a plus
  • Exemplary written and spoken communication skills
  • Demonstrates dependability, accountability, and cooperation

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Preferred ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Preferred ability to work in various weather conditions—hot, cold, rainy, etc
  • Preferred ability to meet physical demands of working with youth
  • Preferred ability to move equipment up to 25 pounds
  • Preferred ability to endure periodically noisy environments (in the context of working with youth)

 

 

 

Salary : $16 - $1,500
