Position Overview
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Brattleboro seeks a caring and committed individual to play a meaningful role in the lives of community youth. Qualified individuals will be dependable, highly motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic about our mission of equipping all youth with essential skills and attitudes to lead healthy, productive lives. Applicants should be passionate about youth engagement and invested in helping our members reach their full potential. This position is responsible for implementing programs and works directly with the full Programs team to deliver quality programming. Our programs emphasize whole-person education while focusing on fun and self-expression for our youth members.
Qualified candidates will:
Possess the skills and temperament necessary for the compassionate supervision and engagement of youth between the ages of 12-18.
Meaningfully participate in daily program set-up and delivery in collaboration with Program Coordinator and other program staff.
Possess the ability to maintain safe boundaries as a consistent role-model while providing youth with time, attention and counsel.
Be a licensed driver with a driving record in good-standing.
Candidates for Program Staff positions must be at least 18 years old and able to commit to a non-traditional work schedule (3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.).
Program Staff Will:
- Supervise, guide, and mentor Club members, ensuring their safety at all times.
- Learn and implement nationally recognized BGCA programs into lesson plans, covering five key areas (health & life skills, sports, fitness & recreation, the arts, education & career development, and character & leadership) while promoting and encouraging program participation
- Build relationships with individual members and participating community youth
- Foster respectful collaboration among members and their peers
- Maintain a positive Club climate for youth and staff
- Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory trainings
- Address behavior using positive redirection and reinforcement
- Work with the Coordinators to address and properly document behavior, incidents, or accidents
- Collaborate with Program & Member Coordinators to distribute post-program/post-experience surveys and document participant feedback
- Work with the Program Coordinator to thoroughly, and in a timely manner, address and document incidents and/or accidents.
- Maintain a well organized program area, and support participants and other program staff in properly caring for equipment, Club spaces, and working with youth and Program Staff to keep collaborative spaces accessible and clean
- Promote the Club’s Mission & Vision in all interactions with community collaborators, youth, families, staff, and visitors
- Participate in maintaining a culture of growth, kindness and respect for each individual
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
- Must have a valid Drivers license
- Must have a clean criminal history check
- Must be fingerprinted upon acceptance of the position
- Must have a current CPR and First Aid certification or be willing to obtain a certification
- Candidates must have at least a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience working with teens highly valued
Salary and Hours:
This is a part-time, hourly position. Pay is $19-24 per hour and commensurate with experience. Anticipated schedule is M-F from 3-7 PM with additional hours available for special events and activities. The first Friday of the month is teen night with hours extending until 9:00pm.
