Job Title: Preschool Teacher
Department: Preschool
Reports to: Preschool Director and Lead Teacher
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reporting to the Preschool director/lead teacher. The Preschool Teacher is responsible for working with the lead teacher to help plan, design, implement and evaluate the preschool program to provide a safe, healthy and educational learning environment for all children and families served in accordance with state regulations. The Preschool teacher will oversee the daily operations of the preschool program alongside the lead teacher. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
- Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children.
- Observe each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem.
- Encourage children to interact with each other.
- Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum (identify shapes, numbers or colors, do crafts etc.)
- Supervise children to ensure they are always safe.
- Track children’s progress and report to lead teacher.
- Communicate with parents regularly to understand the children’s background.
- Collaborate with other educators.
- Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards.
Program Development and Implementation
- Help lead teachers to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities in line with curriculum standards to nurture, stimulate, and meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children to promote child growth and development.
- Ensure children’s individual needs are met and children are challenged by adapting and varying instruction and curriculum.
- Ensure activities conducted respond to children’s needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.
- Interact with children to build a positive relationship with respect, trust and care. Provide children with assistance and encouragement.
- Monitor the classroom to maintain a safe and healthy environment. The classroom is well ventilated, well-lit and the equipment is maintained in good working condition.
- Ensure the preschool program complies with all EEC regulations at all times.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development, and conferences as requested by the Preschool Director.
- Conduct duties which include but are not limited to children reports, attendance sheets, and any other duties deemed necessary by lead teacher and Preschool Director.
- Communicate problems or concerns to lead teachers and Preschool Director.
Supervision
- Work with lead teacher to oversee concerns regarding children’s progress and any problems/issues.
- Conduct children’s observation 2 times a year with lead teacher.
- Promote and participate in open and effective communication.
Marketing and Public Relations
- A high level of enthusiasm, energy and commitment is demonstrated in personal contact with children and families.
- Develop and maintain constructive and ongoing rapport with children and families.
- Encourage family involvement.
- Consult with parents concerning children and developmental development.
- Maintain liaison with families.
- Demonstrate a continual commitment to consistent, meaningful, positive parent involvement as well as to the preschool program goals and objectives.
Additional Responsibilities
- Preparation of all required documentation and materials for EEC.
- May be required to assist in program areas outside of normal responsibilities.
Relationships:
Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with club staff (professional and part time), club members, and
supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.
External: Maintain contact as needed with external community partners, members and others
to assist in resolving problems. Working with outside agencies coming to the program to assist children with any special needs. Ex. Early Intervention, Counselors, DCF Staff and others.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education / Experience: Minimum: Must have a current EEC Preschool Certification
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Knowledge of Early Childhood Development
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; above average interpersonal skills
- Honesty, integrity and operating as a team player are critical to this organization.
- Exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality of critical and sensitive information, records, and reports.
- Understand, interpret, and apply EEC regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.

- Report to scheduled shift consistently and on time.
