Title: Nutrition Assistant
Pay Range: $13 - $15 per hour
Reports To:Nutrition Director
Job Type: Part time Hourly , Non Exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Prepares/ serves nutritious family style meals that meet the nutritional needs set by CACFP to serve to children enrolled in the programs. Duties additionally include oversight or programs or needs designated by the nutrition coordinator.
KEY ROLES:
Essential Duties and Functions:
- Providing food service that meets the nutritional needs of children from birth through late adolescence.
- Serve student meals in a fast and friendly atmosphere.
- Ensuring timely and appropriate classroom meal service.
- Maintaining allergy list and communicating with staff as necessary.
- Follow guidelines to ensure correct serving temperature and adequate portion control.
- Working with classroom teachers to implement food experiences in the classroom.
- Maintaining a clean and sanitary environment at all times.
- Practicing appropriate food storage in accordance with Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and CACFP requirements.
- Attending all scheduled staff meetings and assigned training.
- All other duties as assigned by the Nutrition Director.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain close contact with Club staff and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintain contact with vendors. May be required to communicate with or work closely with licensing agents and families with regard to nutrition.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills:
Required:
- Experience working with food and understanding of the importance of nutrition for youth development
- Servsafe certification, or the willingness to gain this certification
Preferred:
- CPR and First Aid Certifications (training provided)
- Proficiency in word processing and creative computer software applications
- One to three years of experience preparing nutrition on a scale of 100 persons consistently.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Working in a KDHE licensed facility, you may be required to lift and carry children, have close contact with children, Stoop/bend, walk up and down stairs, Drive a vehicle, evacuate children in an emergency, and supervise children/ engage in childcare activities. A nutrition team member will need to be able to lift 50lbs supplies on occasion when unloading trucks, or moving food product.
