TITLE: Seasonal Lifeguard (June 3, 2024 to August 2, 2024)

REPORTS TO: Aquatics Coordinator
TYPE: Non-Exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, the Lifeguard will help facilitate a multifaceted aquatics program for the benefit of Club members. Must provide age appropriate programs for members age 6-18 that are supportive of Boys & Girls Clubs core competencies, core programs, and youth development strategy.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Prepare Youth for Success
· Implement aquatics programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes
· Establish educational objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission
· Lead day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals
· Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program areas
· Demonstrate leadership to ensure proper conduct, safety and development of members
· Ensures program equipment and areas are maintained on a daily basis
Program Development & Implementation
· Plan and implement the overall Aquatics program, with emphasis on physical fitness and recreation; with Aquatics Coordinator, evaluate the Aquatics program on an ongoing basis
· Maintain proper care and upkeep of aquatic equipment; maintain the cleanliness of pool water and deck; perform daily chemical tests of the pool water
· Maintain proper record keeping within the guidelines of state and Boys & Girls Club requirements
· Ensure safety standards and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents; administer first aid and CPR as needed; post safety rules and regulations and go over them with Club members before each swimming activity
· Perform other job-related tasks as assigned
· Using the Formula for Impact (FFI) and other assessment/evaluations/surveys to plan, develop, implement and evaluate programs, services and activities in accordance with our mission that properly prepare youth for success in 3 primary focus areas: 1) Academic Success, 2) Good Character & Citizenship and 3) Healthy Lifestyle
Administration
· Maintains proper documentation of club members including tracking priority outcomes, duration and frequency of attendance, incidents, etc
· Maintains proper documentation of club members for grant purposes
· Oversee pool supplies and equipment (request additional supplies when needed, request equipment maintenance when needed)
Marketing & Public Relations
· Increase visibility of Club programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers and media releases
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Participates in special programs, events and other projects as directed by the Branch Director or administration
· May be required to drive Club van periodically
· May consult with parents concerning member issues
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: Maintains close contact with Club staff, volunteers and Club members.
External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member's parents and other to assist in resolving problems.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:
· Mandatory First Aid and CPR/AED certification
· Ability to perform a spine board rescue from water and various other water rescues
· Mandatory Lifeguard certification
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Demonstrated experience in pool operation and maintenance.
· Strong supervisory skills
· Strong organizational skills
· Water Safety Instructor recommended
· Experience with coaching swim team and swim lessons
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· The person in this position must be able to sit, stand, bend, stoop, lift and walk 75% of the time.
· Frequently communicates with children and parents who have inquiries about the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
· Occasionally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
· Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder
· Occasionally moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
