What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tutor for Teen Students - Part-time position at Boys & Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic?
Position Summary
Hours: 5-10 Hours per week; Wednesdays and Sundays.
Provides in-person tutoring sessions for grade levels 9-12 to help students advance in their academic path to reach their grade-level standards. Tutoring will be provided to students who need individual and/or small group tutoring after school or on Saturdays.
Successful tutors will come from all different backgrounds but share a willingness and a commitment to working with all children. Patience, preparation, and flexibility are key attributes of successful tutors.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain appropriate standards of behavior and create a positive learning environment that shows a commitment to students and their successes
- Design and deliver instruction through creative lessons to engage students in meeting the objectives of the lesson.
- Monitor students’ understanding of the lesson and adjust teaching when appropriate
· Maintain a growth mindset toward student learning
· Facilitate problem-solving with a curious mind and critical thinking skills
- Maintain a quiet and orderly workspace for students within the tutoring space
- Ensure the safety of members, and demonstrate positive values, and ethical behavior through quality programs
- Maintain positive relationships with members, their parents, and/or guardians.
- Display a high level of enthusiasm and commitment to activities
- Maintain accurate program and attendance records and submit them promptly as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management staff
Experience & Education:
- Minimum undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university
- Demonstrated proficiency in English, Language Arts, or Mathematics
- Certified Teacher, with at least 2 years of High School teaching experience
- Demonstrated cultural competency in working with a diverse population
- Demonstrated knowledge in the use of technology to support teaching and learning
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with after-school enrichment programming in a supervised setting
- Experience assessing the progress of assigned students
- Passion and excitement for the subject being taught
