Under the supervision of the Director of Teen Initiatives, the Culinary Instructor will leverage industry experience and educational knowledge to deliver engaging and impactful culinary education to Club teens. This position encompasses equal responsibility for providing culinary instruction, preparing teens for job readiness, and managing compliance with all aspects of the USDA Child Care Food Program (CCFP). The Culinary Instructor will develop and lead hands-on culinary lessons, coordinate guest chefs and field trips, and supervise student-led meal preparation and dining services for events. Simultaneously, they will oversee CCFP compliance, including training staff, managing purchasing, and conducting audits, ensuring all activities meet program requirements.
Essential Duties:
- Prepare and execute daily lesson plans that engage members in hands-on culinary learning experiences, in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of BGCSDC.
- Provide effective classroom management and a positive learning environment for students, adapting instructional techniques to accommodate individual differences in the classroom and maximize student engagement.
- Coordinate visits from guest chefs, plan culinary-related field trips, and organize student-led meal preparation that exposes members to the realities of the food service industry and helps them develop job-ready skills.
- Employ recruitment strategies for the promotion of culinary courses, including identifying target audiences and the most effective methods of reaching them.
- Develop monthly menus in accordance with CCFP guidelines and budgetary constraints, ensuring meals meet program requirements.
- Provide education and training to Club staff on CCFP requirements, including food storage, snack/meal preparation, food service, and compliance with grant reporting.
- Perform quarterly internal audits of the CCFP program to verify compliance with all USDA standards and grant requirements.
- Order food and manage inventory for both culinary classes and CCFP snack/meal service, ensuring adequate supplies and adherence to program needs
- Enforce sanitation principles, ensure organization of workspaces, and maintain equipment and inventory in accordance with Florida Department of Health and BGCSDC standards.
- Assist with Special Events and other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Comprehensive understanding of food safety regulations and sanitation standards.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Prior experience in teaching or instructing culinary classes, especially for youth.
- Ability to design engaging and age-appropriate lesson plans that cover a wide range of culinary skills and knowledge.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Position Requirements:
- Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Three years’ work experience, which includes managerial level responsibilities in one or more of the following areas: high-volume food service, fine dining, or hospitality.
- Previous instructional experience preferred.
- Demonstrated competencies in customer service, community outreach, communication skills and team building.
- Belief in the mission, principles, values and standards of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties.· Flexibility and willingness to work with changing student and school schedules/non-traditional hours.
- Ability to effectively solve problems and resolve conflict in a professional manner.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and develop solutions to problems with limited supervision.
- Ability to positively represent BGCSDC and to foster strong community partnerships.
Salary : $48,000 - $51,000
