TITLE: Bus Driver
REPORTS TO: Elementary Director
CLASSIFIED: Part Time, Non-Exempt
MISSION: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
JOB SUMMARY: The Bus Driver is responsible for safety transporting youth to and from designated locations. The Bus Driver is expected to uphold the Club values inside and outside of the Club. The Club values include teamwork, impact driven, excellence & good character.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transports youth to a designated location
- Ensures the safety and well-being of all children and adults being transported to and from the program and on field trips.
- Completes a comprehensive written inspection of the bus daily, reporting any conditions of concern to the Unit Director, or delegated staff person, before transporting children.
- Ensures that the communication device (e.g. two-way radio, cellular phone) is in proper working order before each trip.
- Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of the bus (e.g., oil change); transporting the bus to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities.
- Ensures that the bus always has sufficient fuel.
- Operates bus in such a way that road and safety regulations are always followed; reports any traffic violations to the Director immediately.
- Follows procedures to guarantee no child is left alone on bus without adult supervision at any time, including insuring all children have departed bus at the end of all bus routes (morning, evening and during field trips or other special trips).
- Keeps the bus clean and free of debris; follows other bus cleaning procedures.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with youth in grades K-12
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- 18 years of age
- Possess and maintain Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and passenger endorsements
- Complete the transportation training provided by the Boys and Girls Club of the Northern Plains.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be of the mental and physical capacity to interact and communicate with staff at the Club to ensure safety of the facility.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- This position is considered to be safety-sensitive.
