TITLE: Food Service Assistant
REPORTS TO: Kitchen Manager
CLASSIFIED: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
MISSION: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
JOB SUMMARY: The Food Service Assistant is responsible for supporting daily food service operations under the direction of the Kitchen Manager. This includes food preparation, unloading and organizing deliveries, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, and assisting with meal service. The ideal candidate will be dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to creating a safe and welcoming dining experience for youth. This position requires flexibility to work between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM during the summer and 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM during the school year and no-school days. This position pays between $14.50 and $16.50 per hour, depending on experience.
JOB DUTIES:
- Assist with preparing meals and snacks in accordance with approved menus and nutritional guidelines.
- Follow all food safety procedures and health regulations.
- Wash dishes and sanitize all food service areas, equipment, and utensils before & after each meal.
- Support the unloading, storage, and organization of food deliveries and supply orders.
- Help track inventory and communicate shortages or needs to the Kitchen Manager.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in food storage areas.
- Ensure kitchen, café, and all food service areas are cleaned and sanitized daily.
- Follow all health and safety regulations to ensure compliance with licensing requirements.
- Assist with meal service during special events and Club programs as needed.
- Collaborate with the Kitchen Manager to support nutrition education initiatives and café programming.
- Attend all required individual and team meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous kitchen or food service experience is a plus.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Completion of Food Safe or ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Positive attitude and commitment to supporting youth in a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time throughout a shift.
- Must have the ability to lift up to 25 pounds in order to unload and stock food orders.
- This position is considered to be safety-sensitive.
