TITLE: Human Resources Generalist
REPORTS TO: Human Resources Director
CLASSIFIED: Full Time, Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: The Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in supporting the organization's most valuable asset—our people. This position ensures the accurate and timely administration of payroll, benefits, and leave policies, contributing to a positive employee experience and supporting our ability to deliver on our mission. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, service-minded HR professional with a deep respect for confidentiality and a passion for nonprofit work. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Payroll Administration:
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate payment to staff across multiple program sites.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local wage laws.
- Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll and resolve discrepancies.
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries with professionalism and discretion.
Benefits Administration:
- Oversee employee benefits enrollment, education, and issue resolution.
- Serve as liaison between employees and benefits providers to ensure a smooth experience.
- Administer annual open enrollment and assist with benefits audits and compliance (ACA, COBRA, HIPAA).
- Support wellness initiatives and promote available benefits.
Leave Management:
- Administer leave programs including FMLA, ADA, parental leave, and other time-off policies.
- Guide employees and supervisors through the leave process, ensuring documentation and compliance.
- Track leave balances and coordinate with payroll to ensure accurate reporting.
General HR Support:
- Maintain employee records in the HRIS with a focus on accuracy and confidentiality.
- Support onboarding and offboarding processes, reinforcing our values-driven culture.
- Assist with HR compliance initiatives, internal audits, and reporting.
- Collaborate with team members on initiatives and employee engagement.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- 2–4 years of experience in human resources, with a focus on payroll, benefits, and leave administration preferred.
- Familiarity with non-profit operations and funding structures is a plus.
- Knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Proficiency with payroll/HRIS systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Paylocity).
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong alignment with our mission and values.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) strongly preferred.
- Experience working in a youth-serving or community-based nonprofit organization.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time throughout a shift
- Ability to operate various types of general office equipment including PC, telephone, copier, etc.
