TITLE: Program Coordinator – Flandreau Indian School
REPORTS TO: FIS Site Director
CLASSIFIED: Full-time, Exempt
MISSION: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
JOB SUMMARY: The FIS Program Coordinator will assist students by providing cultural programming and facilitate school and student relationships. The FIS Program Coordinator will assist in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the FIS Program. The FIS Program Coordinator is expected to uphold the Club values inside and outside of the Club and hold their staff accountable for maintaining the Club values. The Club values include teamwork, impact-driven, excellence & good character.
JOB DUTIES:
- Create, design, and plan a program for the Flandreau Indian School (FIS)
- Provide tutoring and academic support for all students on an as-needed basis
- Plan and provide monthly cultural art (events) for Native American students at FIS
- Stays current on issues of the educational needs of American Indian youth
- Stays current on issues of the needs of American Indian youth
- Assists with delivering grant and impact programs.
- Works with building relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers to assist American Indian students in preparing for post-secondary education.
- Maintain communication between employer and employee through bi-weekly meetings
- Serve as an advocate for youth
- Attends 100% of monthly all-staff meetings, weekly one on one meeting with the supervisor, and weekly team meetings
- Establishes a program setting that ensures the health and safety of members
- Expected to be proactive and flexible while working with youth, staff, and the community
- Assist in developing impact programs that have measurable outcomes
- Responsible for communicating daily with the supervisor on program operations
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited University (preferred)
- Historical knowledge of the Santee Sioux Tribe
- Historical knowledge of the other Native American Tribes
- Knowledge and experience to teach the cultural aspects of the Native American Tribes
- Knowledge of American Indian history, culture, and sovereignty.
- Knowledge of issues of the educational needs of American Indian youth.
- Minimum of 1-year experience with youth services organizations
- Must understand, implement, and demonstrate behavior management principles and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club training and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be of the mental and physical capacity to observe, interact, and communicate with youth, staff, volunteers, parents, etc. at the Club to ensure the safety of the space and others, provide guidance and reflection per the Club priority outcomes and goals
- Ability to stand/sit for extended periods throughout a shift
- Ability to operate several types of general office equipment including PC, telephone, copier, etc.
