The Sport Instructional Support Staff is responsible for leading a classroom to deliver safe and effective learning environments for students through teaching, facilitation, and coordination. This role will provide you with valuable professional development and personal growth opportunities as you will have the chance to work with different grade bands (TK-8). This role reports to the Associate Site Director and is for those who are available to work 5 days a week during the school year in one of our Daly City, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Mateo, or South San Francisco sites. Drawing upon best practices in youth development, you will guide students to build life skills & find joy in sports & fitness in a meaningful, fun context.
- Manage (either as a co-lead or primary lead) a classroom of approximately 10-20 students per 1 staff
- Oversee participants to ensure their guidance and safety at all times
- Plan, coordinate and implement activities that enable students to develop skills while having fun
- Guide students in a manner that supports their social, emotional, and physical development
- Lead sports, games, and various program activities while monitoring student behavior
- Communicate with parents/guardians, school staff, and BGCP leadership
- Engage in weekly check-ins and participate in staff meetings
- Maintain a positive, safe, productive work environment
- Participate in supporting games, special events and field trips
- Attend training and professional development opportunities
- Perform additional relevant duties as assigned
- Commitment to BGCP’s mission and vision and working with TK-8 youth
- Experience building relationships with diverse youth communities and constituents
- Ability to motivate through positive reinforcement
- Strong communication skills
- Flexible in navigating a fast-paced environment
- Preferred one year of experience working with TK-8 youth
- Preferred one year of coaching experience in sports such as soccer, volleyball, or basketball
- Spanish fluency is a plus
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- 12-19 hours per week
- Three to four days a week, Monday through Friday
- Hours vary by site:
- Generally, 2:00pm to 6:30pm (Exception: either Wednesday or Thursday 12:30pm to 6:30pm)
- Starting time for TK/K may be earlier
- Weekly team meeting additional professional development trainings
- Employment Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
- Pay Range: $22-25/hr, depending on experience (DOE)
