JOB TITLE: Athletics Specialist
STATUS: Part-time, Non-Exempt
HOURS:
After School (through May 23rd) - 1:00 – 6:00 pm, Monday-Friday (25 hours/week)
Summer (June 10 - Aug 8) - 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday with a 1-hour lunch break (35 hours/week)
SUMMARY: Role model. Plan, lead, teach, and explore athletics activities, including games and sports, with youth Club members and teens (5-18yo)
KEY FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure physical and emotional safety of members at all times
- Embrace Club culture, values, and traditions
- Plan and facilitate BGCA “Triple Play” programming and ensure delivery of 30 minutes or more of physical activity to Club members daily; maintain records and compliance for grants
- Align activities with the NC State Standards
- Participate in training and development opportunities
- Provide leadership and guidance to other staff members implementing athletic programs
- Monitor behavior and implement discipline policy for members as necessary
- Ensure compliance with all rules, regulations, and safety protocols
- Ensure proper inventory, maintenance, and storage of sports equipment and supplies and submit purchase requests for athletic supplies according to established budgetary parameters
- Implement new sports initiatives and group activities that target lifelong skills and emphasize team play
- Integrate daily activities, games, and programs supporting the goals of athletic programs
- Teach hard and soft skills associated with a variety of athletic activities
- Primarily plan and implement activities for Cashiers location
- Plan and occasionally implement activities at Highlands location
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in planning and implementation of special programs and/or events including community events, sports tournaments, carnivals, off-campus trips, etc.
- Set up and strike daily programming equipment
- Daily problem solving, critical thinking, and ability to adapt
- Fill-in as needed as a Program Group Leader
- Occasionally travel to Highlands location to implement programming
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Phys Ed, Recreational Therapy, Sports Management, majors strongly encouraged to apply
- Prior youth athletic coaching experiences preferred
- Ability to work with and plan activities for wide variety of age groups ranging from K-12th grade
- Knowledge and general understanding of various of team sports including basketball, soccer, volleyball
- Ability to educate and motivate students in a sports setting
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Fluency in Spanish strongly desired (bonus available)
- CPR and First Aid Certifications or willingness to obtain
- Lifeguard and/or Wilderness Swim Safety Certification or willingness to obtain a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be in moderate physical shape (able to stand for long periods of time, walk, and occasionally run without tiring); may be required to lift up to 55 lbs; must be able to work in all kinds of weather.
