TITLE: Education Director
PROFILE SOURCE: Youth Development Professional
REPORTS TO: VP ofOperations
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 10am-6pm, some weekends
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Education Director’s primary responsibility is to develop, implement, and oversee a flexible, fun, and meaningful educational program that meets the needs of Club members by providing enriching evidence-based learning opportunities. Specifically, the Education Director will 1) ensure that the academic, STEM, and art program curriculum aligns with NC Education Standards, is fun and engaging, and targets the educational needs of the members; 2) supervise the staff who develop and implement the programs; and 3) ensure proper record keeping and data collection in compliance with goal outcomes and grant requirements.
KEY ROLES
Program Responsibilities:
Direct the development and implementation of the following programs; supervise specialists, interns, and program staff who lead the programs; and set and maintain program expectations for members and staff:
- Academic focused programs including:
- BGCA’s Power Hour (PH) - structured period allocated for members to receive homework assistance, tutoring, and other activities that help members become curious, self-directed learners.
- Boost - period dedicated to small group activities designed to target members who are behind academically or below proficiency in math and reading.
- Read to Learn - specialized paired tutoring program for 1st - 4th grade members focused on early literacy and foundational reading skills for members who have significant learning challenges.
- STEM and art activities:
- Guide and set expectations for staff developing and leading those activities.
- Ensure curriculum is aligned to current NC Education Standards.
- Create fun opportunities that increase exposure to a wide variety of activities.
- Direct additional educational programming including Odyssey of the Mind - a creative problem-solving program where team members present their solution at a competition to a predefined long-term problem.
- Maintain a monthly cultural and heritage theme calendar for educational programming.
Leadership and Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise the STEM Specialist, Art Specialist, Education (Read to Learn) Coordinator, Boost Specialist and related interns by directing them in their development of programming (including ensuring the curriculum aligns with NC Education Standards when appropriate), monitoring their performance, and providing support and coaching.
- Develop and train program staff to provide activities that will promote academic enrichment for members.
- Provide continuous guidance to program staff through regular meetings and ensuring expectations are clearly communicated for all educational programs.
- Help to train and guide volunteers who are assisting with academic programs.
Data and Record Keeping:
- Collaborate with the Membership Coordinator to ensure PH attendance is being tracked through the database system (MyClubHub).
- Collaborate with the Membership Coordinator to gain consent from all parents/guardians to collect member’s report cards.
- Oversee report card data collection process and share data with the assigned grants manager.
- Review report card data with supervisors and assigned grants manager and implement opportunities to address positive and negative trends found in the data.
- Continuously review and update educational program tracking and participate in trainings to stay up to date on educational research.
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements, such as the 21st Century grant, and collaborate with the grants manager to ensure program outcomes needs are being met.
RELATIONSHIPS
- Develop and maintain close relationships with schools; meet with teachers and school representatives at least once per year and develop open lines of communication throughout the year.
- Develop authentic and meaningful relationships with Club members, staff, community partners, and volunteers.
- Collaborate with other organizations, businesses, schools, and community partners.
- Participate in parent conferences and promote parent engagement.
- Maintain confidentiality in regard to staff, volunteers, members, and family matters.
- Work as a part of a team to accomplish shared goals.
- Meet weekly with the Program Director to discuss upcoming activities including requests of educational programming, staffing, and space needs.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively participate in BGCA trainings, internal trainings, and other developmental opportunities.
- Work with other program Directors to share responsibility of “managing the floor” during programming - to be on call for handling staff and member needs.
- Oversee or participate in special programs and/or events as necessary, which may include nights or weekends.
- Drive club vehicles as needed.
- Ensure all program rooms are clean, organized in a structured manner, and are stocked with resources to promote learning for all members.
- Maintain accurate inventory of all Club property related to educational programs.
- Purchase for programs and other business transactions and stay within a given budget.
- Open, lock-up, and step into other leadership roles as needed.
- Monitor behavior of individual members and groups of members and implement discipline policy for members as necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work requires physical strength and agility to safely perform all essential functions, including the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull equipment without assistance. Position requires operation of motor vehicles and the ability to sit or stand for long periods.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education (major or minor) or 2 years experience in a related field.
- Prior experience working or volunteering in educational programming with a non-profit organization.
- Experience in developing and implementing education programs for children across a wide range of ages.
- Excellent communication but verbal and written.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (including Word and Excel), Google Suite (including Sheets and Docs) and Canva
- Ability to collect and analyze data.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and develop solutions to problems with limited supervision.
- Must clear background check and have a clear driving record
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
