What are the responsibilities and job description for the STEM Specialist position at Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau?
JOB TITLE: STEM Specialist
STATUS: Part-time, Non-Exempt
HOURS: Spring: 1:00 - 6 PM, Monday-Friday (if available to start before summer)
Summer: 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday-Friday (35 payable hours per week)
SUMMARY: Role model. Plan, lead, teach, and explore STEM activities with youth Club members.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
Program Development and Implementation
- Design and implement a comprehensive STEM program with goals and objectives each year for K-6th grade age groups.
- Align activities with the NC Standard Course of Study.
- Maintain and submit all record keeping including, but not limited to, curriculum outlines, program attendance tracking, and activity calendars.
- Ensure that all STEM supplies are stocked and in good condition, submit purchase requests for supplies, and maintain an organized and tidy work area.
- Promote and implement all STEM programs at assigned sites.
- Continuously evaluate program curriculum and implementation.
- Participate in BGCA national programs and training opportunities (Netsmartz, Digital Arts Festival, My Future, robotics, coding, media programming, etc.) as necessary/desired.
- Make recommendations to BGCP staff to improve the program quality for members and staff.
General
- Ensure physical and emotional safety of members at all times.
- Embrace Club culture, values, and tradition.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
- Monitor member behavior and implement discipline policy as necessary.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in planning and implementation of special programs and/or events; including technology-based tournaments, carnivals, off-campus trips, etc.
- Fill the Program Leader role as necessary.
- Set up and strike daily programming equipment.
- Daily problem solving, critical thinking, and ability to adapt.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Graduated or enrolled in a secondary degree program.
- Experience in working with children and leading activities is preferred.
- Desire to motivate and provide an enriching environment for youth.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
- CPR and First Aid Certifications or a willingness to acquire both.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be in moderate physical shape (able to stand for long periods of time, walk, and occasionally run without tiring), may be required to lift up to 55 lbs
