JOB TITLE: Teen Activity Specialist
STATUS: Part-Time
REPORTS TO: Teen Club Director
HOURS: 20 hrs/week
After School Hours: Monday - Friday 1pm-6pm
Summer Camp Hours: Monday - Friday 1pm-6pm w/opportunity of 30 hrs/week
SUMMARY: The Teen Activity Specialist is responsible for the planning, organizing and implementing teen enrichment programs such art, STEM, outdoor activities, teen nights, and other activities based on the interests of the teen members. This position will include a portion of time spent during non-programming hours as well as all programming hours and may occasionally be asked to work evenings or on weekends.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
- Plan, develop, and lead teen-targeted programs such as art, STEM, and more.
- Coordinate and prepare activities for other staff to implement.
- Assist with rising teen and middle school programming as needed.
- Work with the Teen Club Director to create and maintain a daily teen program schedule.
- Plan and implement specialized teen programs (field trips, late nights, etc).
- Ensure that weekly programming meets priority outcomes.
- Ensure physical and emotional safety of Club members and promote safety as a core value at BGCP.
- Provide guidance and positive role modeling to youth.
- Encourage program participation in a fun, enriching environment.
- Cross train for front desk duties and fill-in as needed for check-in and check-out of teen members.
- Occasional additional administrative duties (including/not limited to copying, filing, answering phones, etc).
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Daily problem solving, critical thinking, and ability to adapt.
- Participate in staff meetings and team discussions.
- Participate in special programs and events including sports tournaments, carnivals, festivals, off-campus trips, parades, etc.
- Will be required to operate Club vans if 21 years of age or older.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor’s degree or current student in related fields, such as Education, Art Education, Parks & Recreation, Rec Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, etc.
- Previous experience in planning and implementing youth programs, especially with teens preferred.
- Desire to motivate and provide an enriching environment for teens.
- Ability to manage groups or willingness to learn.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
- CPR and First Aid Certifications strongly desired, or willingness to acquire (BGCP offers annual training).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be in moderate physical shape (able to stand for long periods of time, walk, and occasionally run without tiring). May be required to lift up to 55 lbs. May be outside in all kinds of weather.
