The Youth Development Professional - STEAM will engage and inspire youth members by providing high-quality, hands-on programming centered around Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). This role will emphasize skills development in robotics, coding, 3D printing, drone technology, virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) training, arts photography, and digital literacy. The Youth Development Professional will mentor and guide youth through innovative projects, fostering their interest in STEAM fields, helping them gain practical skills, and encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork.
Requirements:
Duties and Responsibilities
STEAM Program Facilitation:
- Lead and supervise STEAM-focused programs, workshops, and activities such as robotics, coding, 3D printing, drone technology, VR/AR training modules, arts photography, and digital literacy.
- Design and implement engaging lesson plans that promote critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning within the context of the STEAM disciplines.
- Ensure all projects and activities are age-appropriate, engaging, and effectively meet learning objectives.
- Provide technical guidance to youth in using equipment such as drones, computers, cameras, 3D printers, and VR/AR headsets.
Youth Mentorship and Support:
- Build meaningful relationships with youth, promoting a safe and positive environment.
- Provide individual guidance and group support, fostering a culture of collaboration and teamwork.
- Encourage youth participation in STEAM activities, helping to boost confidence, self-esteem, and social-emotional development.
- Track and report on individual progress, offering personalized feedback to help youth succeed.
Program Development and Evaluation:
- Assist in the development of new STEAM programs that align with the interests and needs of the youth.
- Adapt activities based on feedback and observations, ensuring that they remain relevant and engaging.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs, adjusting delivery methods and content based on youth outcomes and feedback.
Technology Integration:
- Stay current on emerging trends in STEAM education and technology, incorporating innovative tools and resources into programming.
- Manage and maintain equipment and software related to STEAM programming, ensuring proper functioning and safety standards.
- Help teach youth valuable digital literacy skills, including coding languages, photo and video editing, and basic graphic design.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with other team members, leadership, and community partners to ensure the success of STEAM programming and initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with youth, parents, and staff about program objectives, goals, and achievements.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay current in the field.
Safety and Supervision:
- Ensure the safety of youth during all activities, adhering to Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson policies and safety procedures.
- Monitor and manage behavior, ensuring that all youth are respectful, engaged, and actively participating in the program.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or equivalent experience in Education, Engineering, Technology, Arts, or a related field preferred.
- 6 months of experience working with youth ages 13 to 18, preferably in a Boys & Girls Clubs of America or after-school program setting.
- Strong interest and passion for STEAM education and experience with at least one area of focus (e.g., coding, robotics, photography, drone technology, VR/AR, 3D printing).
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong technical skills, with the ability to teach and guide youth in using digital tools and STEAM equipment.
- Familiarity with STEAM concepts, including but not limited to coding (e.g., Python, Scratch), robotics (e.g., LEGO Mindstorms, VEX Robotics), 3D printing, drone operations, and VR/AR.
- Ability to break down complex concepts for youth and foster an environment of creative learning.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to youth of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
