What do Program Assistants do?
The most important out of all Program Assistant duties is to ensure campers are safe at all times. You are responsible for ensuring participants don’t get lost or hurt, and for ensuring that everyone is having FUN.
Program Assistants will be assigned to 1 age group for the majority of the summer; Kindergarten - 7th grade.
Job Duties
- Maintain proper records as needed for programming (attendance, meal counts, etc.)
- Provide individual guidance and establish relationships with members that are conducive to their growth and development.
- Maintain program areas in a clean, orderly and safe working condition.
- Have Fun!
- Participate in all activities alongside the participants.
- Teach and encourage participants.
- Supervise and interact with campers during meal times and while swimming at the pool.
- Maintain appropriate relationship boundaries with participants, including but not limited to NO CONTACT with Club participants via text message, social media, or other messaging apps while employed by BGCW.
Responsibilities
- Build positive relationships with children/teens.
- Assist Program Leaders with daily activities taking into account children’s age groups and interests
- Educate campers through games and explorations
- Set up and maintain equipment
- Resolve occasional fights between children and address behavioral issues
- Make sure all safety rules are followed
- Ensure program areas are clean and that campers don’t litter recreational areas or nature
- Enable all summer campers to clean up after themselves
- Perform first aid or take care of injuries as needed
- Keep accurate incident logs

Requirements
- Pass background check.
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Has obtained a High School Diploma
- Proven experience as a camp counselor, leader, or similar role working with children preferred.
- First aid and CPR certified preferred
- Must be available to attend our paid Staff Training May 28-May 30 (dates & times may change if the Wooster School District utilizes make up days at the end of the school year.)
- Must be available to work M-F, June 2-August 1. Time off for vacations will not be permitted.
- Staff will have June 19 off in observance of Juneteenth.
- Staff will have June 30-July 4 off in observance of Independence Day.
