Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson’s Mission :

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson (BGCC) offers our young people a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves, dedicated adult mentors who respect and listen to them, and outcome-based programs that empower youth to become lifelong learners.

PRIMARY FUNCTION :

Plan, implement and evaluate all programs and activities for the teen members in the five core areas : The Arts, Education & Career Dev., Character & Leadership Dev., Health & Life Skills, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation, with the concern for providing supervision and control over members, supervising staff and volunteers, prepare and monitor program budgets and disciple members when necessary. Maintain all reporting and attendance and work in conjunction with High School personnel.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities) :

Leadership

  • Establish site activities and services that prepare youth for success and create an outcome-driven Club experience that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes.
  • Evaluate opportunities to improve Club program; design and communicate strategies to implement improvements.
  • Ensure a productive work environment by scheduling regular staff meetings and one-on-one staff coaching
  • Provide career development opportunities for staff and volunteers
  • Create a system in which employees can perform at their best by creating clear goals and expectations and conducting annual performance evaluations
  • Analyze and review average daily attendance and frequency of attendance and develop and implement strategies to increase membership and attendance.
  • Communicate, interpret, and enforce policies and procedures established by BGCC

Prepare Youth for Success

Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes :

  • Promote and stimulate program participation.
  • Participate in new Club orientation process.
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Promote safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of site at all times.
  • Program Development and Implementation

    Effectively plan, organize and implement a range of program services and activities for members.

  • Initiate Boys & Girls Club programs and new programs
  • Work towards achieving goals set forth by Los Angeles Unified School District and Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson each year.
  • Make recommendations concerning the development of programs.
  • Develop and implement annual action plan, including end of year objectives, main activities, and assessment measures.
  • Provide program reports to supervisor and keep attendance records.
  • Submit necessary attendance, financial and program reports to the Club.
  • Oversee that all supplies are stocked and in good condition, ordering and purchasing supplies and maintain an organized and tidy work area, working within the allocated budget.
  • Participate in School staff meetings and encourage a positive relationship with school personnel.
  • Recruit, train, support and evaluate staff and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with community organizations to enhance / expand teen programs.
  • Develop and implement systems for family involvement / engagement.
  • Develop and implement a recruitment strategy to increase program visibility and participation.
  • Monitor curriculum development and facilitation to ensure that all services offered through the Club facilitate achievement of BGCC program goals and outcomes.
  • Ensure that services offered are in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure facilities are safe, clean, and sanitary for youth and visitors.
  • Work with staff and members to correct unsafe behaviors, ensure emergency procedures are followed, and take actions to prevent incidents.
  • Finance

  • Control expenditures against budget.
  • Initiate program adjustments based on current budget performance.
  • Assist in leveraging funds to supplement the program.
  • Supervision

  • Conduct all employee discipline in accordance with The Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson standards.
  • Perform annual evaluations.
  • Effectively delegates responsibilities to team members.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings.
  • Approve staff timesheets, expense reports, mileage reports, leave requests, and other employee action forms.
  • ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Ensure that daily schedule of activities is followed.
  • Check sign-in and sign-out sheets daily.
  • Attend trainings in the area of youth development.
  • Participation or leading special programs and / or events.
  • Collect and analyze data to guide program direction.
  • Required to drive Club van (Class B training provided).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • RELATIONSHIPS :

    Internal : Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive / provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines / instructions; instruct; and advise / counsel.

    External : Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

    Requirements : REQUIRED SKILLS :

  • A four-year degree from an accredited university / college and three years in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of youth development and curriculum development strategies to meet the needs of teen members.
  • Strong initiative and ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds, ages 6-18 as well as a range of other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Highly motivated and dedicated to the organizational mission.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Experience in program development and implementation.
  • Highly organized and motivated, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management.
  • Self-directed, enthusiastic, reliable and creative.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, some evening and weekend hours.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications and TB clearance
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Tasks are regularly performed with moderate exposure to environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, and temperature and noise extremes.

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS :

    Tasks that involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of standing for long periods of time, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight.
