Position Summary
The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) is a pivotal member of the senior leadership team at BGCCO, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The CAO provides strategic leadership for all fundraising, marketing, communications, and community engagement efforts to ensure the financial sustainability and public visibility of the organization.
This executive will lead a high-performing advancement team, developing and implementing strategies that enhance donor relations, elevate brand recognition, and expand community partnerships. The CAO plays a critical role in advancing BGCCO’s mission through the cultivation of strong relationships with donors, alumni, volunteers, and the broader Central Ohio community.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
Advancement Strategy & Team Leadership
- Lead and manage all aspects of the advancement department, including resource development, marketing, communications, and stakeholder engagement.
- Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising and marketing strategies aligned with BGCCO’s strategic plan.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate advancement team members, fostering a collaborative, mission-aligned, and high-performance culture.
- Build and maintain effective cross-functional partnerships with other departments to align advancement goals with organizational priorities.
- Design and execute a sustainable fundraising plan, including major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundation support, annual giving, planned giving, and government grants.
- Steward donor relationships through effective cultivation, solicitation, and recognition strategies.
- Track fundraising performance and provide timely reports to the CEO, Board, and stakeholders.
- Ensure alignment with BGCA membership and resource development standards.
- Oversee organizational messaging, ensuring consistent and compelling storytelling that advances the BGCCO brand.
- Lead public relations strategy, securing media coverage and increasing public engagement.
- Manage communication platforms, ensuring high-quality and value-aligned content.
- Elevate brand awareness through integrated marketing strategies and community engagement campaigns.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to build a strong, recognizable BGCCO presence across digital and traditional platforms.
- Lead initiatives that position BGCCO as a thought leader in youth development.
- Develop and implement strategies to deepen relationships with alumni and volunteers.
- Create meaningful opportunities for engagement that leverage their time, talent, and networks.
- Strengthen systems to recruit, train, and recognize volunteer contributions.
- Foster a culture of accountability, creativity, and shared success across the advancement team.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives that align community engagement efforts with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with Board members, particularly the Development Committee, to advance fundraising and awareness.
- Stay informed of sector trends and implement innovative strategies to improve advancement outcomes.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, marketing, or advancement, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven success in leading a comprehensive advancement strategy and managing teams.
- Experience working with Boards of Directors and high-capacity donors.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate and steward major gifts and strategic partnerships.
