Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Ohio, an Affiliate of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, empowers the young people who need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens by providing high-quality and impactful out-of-school time programming for youth in grades K-12. BGCCO serves 4,000 youth per year throughout Central Ohio.
Position Summary
Youth Development Support role will provide assistant to a Youth Development Professional to deliver programing to members delivering a high-quality experience that supports their current and long-term success. Staff utilize our five key elements for positive youth development, based on research that studied many Clubs’ best practices:
- Create a safe, positive environment
- Generate fun and foster a sense of belonging
- Encourage supportive relationships with peers and adults
- Provide opportunities and set expectations
- Offer recognition to positive behavior
Essential Job Function & Responsibilities:
- Provide support to programs, members (K-8th grade), and club staff through activities and services that are essential for preparing youth members for success through organizational awareness, systemic and innovative thinking.
- Gain the experience to support a positive youth experience through relationship building, providing recognition, leading by example, and listening, while serving as a positive role model.
- Under the supervisor of a club leader gain the basic skills and understanding of what is required to work with youth and implement quality programs in a safe environment.
- Learn the skills and competencies needed to become a mentor.
- Engage with club members to provide an exceptional experience.
- Gain knowledge on how to model and encourage positive behavior and interactions between members.
- Assist with special events (field trips, club special guest etc.).
- Assist with keeping the club organized and clean, arranging rooms, common areas etc.
Professional Development Opportunities:
- Learn and apply principles for basic youth supervision.
- Learn about how to recognize child abuse and reporting.
- Understanding youth worker rights.
- Learn and follow club safety policies and procedures (Code of Conduct, Health & Safety Hazards, Emergency Operation Plans & Drills, Sanitation and Facility Safety).

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Student, minimum 16 years of age.
- Strong work ethic, positive personality, and attitude.
- Ability to be on-time and reliable for each scheduled shift, always clock in and out before and after each shift.
- Must be able to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Greet and interact with members each day in a positive and polite manner.
- Must submit to a background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
- Sitting (Frequently)
- Walking (Frequently)
- Kneeling, stooping, and going up and down stairs (Frequently)
