POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Youth Development Professional (YDP) is a part time, hourly position working with our youth to provide “hands on” delivery of daily in-house programing including social recreation, team building activities, and an overall environment to build positive relationships.
Monday-Friday 2:00pm-7:00pm

Primary Function
Under the supervision of the Assistant Club Director, a YDP is responsible for assisting with the development and operation of our after-school program. Works to create a welcoming and safe environment for our members and aligns new members to program areas, special events, and opportunities. Will provide support in their assigned program area by monitoring member’s behavior, providing instruction, and engaging with members and parents.
The YDP develops and delivers the BGCD and BGCA suite of programs ranging from the games room, to teen activities, arts and crafts, the food program, low organized games, outdoor activities, special events, before school program, summer program and group clubs.
YDP’s must be able to demonstrate the following:

Key Roles:
The YDP is responsible for:
Building meaningful relationships with members
The delivery of specific program services within the Clubhouse
Compliance with organizational operational and HR policies
The overall Club climate—safety and security, the moral compass, guidance
Teach and enforce discipline, values, morals, citizenship, manners, life skills and citizenship
Proper reporting, record keeping and reports
Janitorial, maintenance of equipment and furnishings
Assisting the Program Director in all phases of the overall Club operation
Membership administration and program registration
Other duties as assigned by the Club Director
Build positive relationships: BGC staff, kids, parents, community stakeholders, visitors, volunteers
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver age-appropriate programs and activities, which reflect Boys & Girls Club’s five core program areas, for children ages 6 – 18.
- Help ensure safe implementation of all programs and activities. This involves, but is not limited to: condition of equipment and facilities, age-appropriateness, ability levels, weather, appropriate use of equipment and supplies
- Orients new members to program area, special events, and opportunities as well as club safety, program, and disciplinary rules.
- Implements, monitors, and evaluates programs, services, and activities for members.
- Ensures program area is attractive, neat, and clean and bulletin boards and notices are current.
- Assume other tasks, assignments and responsibilities as needed or directed.
Additional responsibilities
- Maintain a positive Boys & Girls Club culture, with high energy, strong teamwork, and effective collaboration with other staff
- Promotes daily learning center program participation, as well as participation in special events.
- Maintaining productive relationships with parents, school faculty and administrators and staff, and other visitors to the Club.
- Ensures a productive work environment by participating in club leader meetings
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma GED is required
18 years old
Must be able to pass a background check. Must be over 18 to work with youth, over 21 to work with teens.
Must have at least one year experience working with children.
Combined experience and/or formal training equivalent to a minimum of 6 months where: • There is experience working with youth and knowledge of youth development.
Formal training, and/or experience teaching youth while creating engaging learning experiences.
Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
Ability to de-escalate problems when present, as well as problem-solve during day-today-club activities
Ability to plan and implement quality learning programs for youth.
Ability to control and manage a group of children through different activities
Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications (course will be available for staff upon being hired)
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience as Youth Development Professional
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Ability to be flexible and to cope with a rapidly changing society
Ability to exercise considerable and sound judgment to coach members instructionally and socially
Professional leadership through communications and actions
Ability to have self-control and work with low supervision
Competency in all club areas
Friendliness, enthusiasm, energy and creativity for motivating youth
Valid State Drivers License
Basic computer skills; detail oriented; ability and willingness to multitask; great communications skill both written and verbal
